I had to take the Cat thru the E-check to get my plates renewed. If the car is over 2 years old the emission test has to be performed every two years. Just my luck it is 2 years and 3 weeks old. I spent an hour there. They didn't know what kind of car it was, didn't know how many cylinders it had, wanted to know if it was front wheel or rear wheel drive. I had about 5 technicians (?) working in and around it, with their keys dangling at their sides, and finally two supervisors came over to help. They had a computer type sensor holding it over the hood. After an hour they gave up, gave me a waiver and waived the $ 19.50 fee. The test is only required in the more populated counties in the state. (The money goes to upgrade the expressway system for people travelling to Maine, lol.) It is a total joke. Three years ago they couldn't figure out what was up with the Intrepid and passed me even though the check engine light kept coming on. I immediately went to a mechanic and needed a CO 2 sensor. But they passed the car even though it should have failed. I had to pay the fee that time. |

Typical good idea gone bad....I understand the need for emissions testing when I get behind some of these oil spewing crop dusters on the highways, but when the employees are not trained enough to know what the car is...wellllll...maybe it is time for more training or just let everyone mail in the $20...Indiana used to have this and it was a joke here also...all you had to do was know who to see, what garage etc....many dealerships did them back then....they would never fail "one of their own"...made them look bad...I always thought the cops should just pull over the major offenders and leave it at that.... ------------------ |

I've been informed that a buckeye is nothing more than a worthless nut. Maybe the State of Ohio is trying to figure out how not to pay for all its BRIAR-PATCH inhabitants. ------------------ |

Hey Ed, which E-check did you go to, Harrison Ave? I had to have mine done when I bought it (all used cars have to). The tech dude rev ved the engine a little but otherwise zipped me right along. What was that magic wand they waved over the hood? ------------------ |

Andy, I went to the one on Beekman this time. Big mistake. I usually go to the one on Harrison but was in a hurry and thought it was a little closer to go to Beekman. I have no idea what they were passing over the hood and that was near the end of the ordeal and they didn't explain, of course. SPCL-T, I was pulling your leg. I have been very critical of our roads, stating that only Detroit has worse roads than Cincinnati. Sorry you don't like Briars or Buckeyes but you seem to have a great sense of humor. |

CJ. Don't take it personally, I know you don't work for a paving company. Right near Tiger Stadium on the expressway(I-75) ? the road was almost impassible last summer. Cincinnati's roads are horrible too, and I would never defend them. I have been in all 50 states and Detroit & Cincy are the worst roads I have ever been on. I-75 in Cincy is so wavy that when you change lanes on a M/C or a Prowler, you feel like you are on a roller coaster. They have been working on I-75 thru here since they opened it in the 60's. It will never be finished and in good shape. I wasn't taking a shot at you or Detroit. The roads are bad, though, especially the expressway system. Sorry. |

Ed - Not a problem. I'm just depressed about my baby being brused. I always thought that it would be a mistake of my own, that would damage the Prowler. "Things Happen!" ------------------ |

We have a new system (st. Louis) whereby the longer you wait in line the lower the cost. There are also portable testing vans located at freeway on ramps which sniff your exhaust as you pass by. They travel to different locations each week. If you drive your car past one of these vans to get sniffed about 60 days prior to your emissions test, then you don't have to visit the testing station. |
