There is a possibility that DC will begin selling the fender brackets as separate unit if there is enough demand for them. Presently the fender bracket must be ordered attached to the fender with Huck fasteners. This causes the replacement cost to be very high if you need only a bracket and not the complete fender assembly. Please post if you have ever damaged your fenders and please don't be shy. ------------------ This message has been edited by Larry Lord on 01-18-2001 at 10:12 PM |

Man, I wish you would not have brought this subject up. I had a piece of 2 x 4 on the floor to let me know where to stop. It stuck to the tire, after sitting for a week or so, and got pulled up under the fender and I now have stress cracks on the fender. Man, I wish you would not have brought this up. I had put that in the back of my mind for the winter. Now it is right up front. "I hate when that happens." |

The real question...have you ever laid on your back on a crummy parking lot in pitch black darkness helping someone who had damaged a fender. All good points and well taken Larry! Ed, yours has to be the most unique fender wreck of all. I'm sure DC won't cover it, but maybe the lumber yard will! ------------------ |

I just read that someone said that they damaged their fender by running over their mudflap??? Is this the factory mudflap that you buy or was it a rigged job? B/c i just ordered a set of the mudflaps and they are said to be a hard plastic so there should be no bendage for them to get caught under a wheel. Get back on this... ------------------ !!++Youngest Driving Prowler Owner++!! -Amsoil Engine and Tranny Fluid |

Jason, the way everyone but me screwed up their fenders was by driving into a pot hole and then backing up. When you back up the mud flap hits the tire and gets drug under the tire and pulls down the fender. It is the factory flap that is rigid but only about an inch from the tire. Try it, it works apparently, as several have done it. Me, I am an individualist and screwed it up in a way no one else even thought of. I still wish Larry would not have brought this up. It makes me sick thinking of it. I want a fender without the bracket. |

Jason, having mud flaps on are TOTALLY worth it... I have two sets on so far and am bringing in the 3rd cat for the other set soon, along with the ceramic brake pads. My kats can now go 1000 miles and be LESS dirty then driving them 100 miles without the flaps and brake pads! Just pay attention to those pot holes! ------------------ |

Larry I did this last year and cost almost 900.00 for fender and bracket, new fasteners and paint. (Plus 3000.00 to put in a new curb at the driveway). I can't believe they don't sell them seperately because the fender comes attached to the bracket which means you have to remove it anyway to properly paint it. Then you have to buy a new set of huck fasteners, find someone with the right tool to attach the fasteners and hope they will rent it for a 10 minute job because if you have to buy it the cost of the tool is 1000.00. I still have a perfectly good fender that I think I will hang on my wall. ------------------ |

This is the fender damage count so far. I know there have been many more than this but cannot remember who they were. Please don't be bashful,,,post if you have damaged a fender or it's bracket. Larry Lord (1) About 5 sets will be purchased for chroming purposes it sounds like. Ed, I omitted your damage because of the circumstances. Also AlleyCat says that the lumber yard may warranty your fender. |

Larry, yes, please put me down for two, in addition to what you've already counted. I'd like to order as soon as possible. |

Larry L, I thought you were smart enough not to believe anything Alley Cat tells you. I sued Weyerhauser and settled for $45,000 plus court costs. I still owe him 29 cents however. It is the principle that matters, not the cash. I now use a RR tie as a stop block. It will either work or the car will be totalled, if it doesn't work. |

Larry, Put me down for a pair to have chromed also. I think there is a lot of demand for the brackets if they sell them seperatly. Ed, I have a spare cushioned stop for a rail car sitting in my yard if you want to replace that rr tie you just installed. If it will stop a rail car, it might work for the cat. |

Yes, thee will be a lot of demand for these both now and in the future, the word just isn't out yet. And this should save DC good money if a guy can buy one of these and fix himself when the fender gets tweaked. Or rather the bracket tweaked, the fender is usually just fine. Cost of painting is high these days and not necessary if the parts are seperated. So this is a win,win for both manufacturer and customer as I see it. |

Jim S, thanks for the offer, but again it is the principle. I have to make this work. Also everyone please quit posting to this thread. It is always at the top when I check in, and it makes me sick to think about how stupid I was. Quit reminding me every day. Let it die. for the love of God, let it die. |

Sorry, what was that again Ed? For Larry's sake, since he is one who mucked around the parking lot at Black Bart's in Flagstaff helping with the right front fender !That I had sucked around to ground zero! Sorry Ed, can't seem to find a way to keep this from going back to the top.
