I absolutely hate alarms, but they have great anti theft systems, LoJack, there is another that you can track your car via satallite, and it screams I am a stolen car very loud if they steal it. ------------------ |

Bill, I have the Compustar alarm system. It's expensive, but it was WELL worth the money to me. It has a color, backlit, 2 way pager remote. The most fun I have is with the remote start. Eating at say a fast food place watching the car. People walk up to take a look and I start her purring. FREAKS them out! If you choose to drive your Kat up there during winter, it also has this awesome feature that starts and runs the car for about 15 minutes every 2 or 3 hours. Keeps it from freeeeeezing up. The remote works "up to" a half mile away. But that's only with NOTHING between you. It does make me feel more secure having it rather than the factory alarm. Just some info for ya. Enjoy your Kat. ------------------ |

Does this trick computer alarm drain the battery when the car is not started for any length of time? Every alarm I have had has made the battery drain really fast, thus over working the alternator and then causing said alternator to wear out in 50k or so miles, often leaving me stranded somewhere, which is why I dislike alarms (not to mention having a dead battery every 2 weeks). ------------------ |

quote: Sounds like you have an electrical leak somewhere. Since our Prowler is a toy third car, it sometimes goes for weeks if not a month or two and doesn't get driven or even started. Car is always locked, covered, and alarm on. Never had a problem starting. I've had a number of third cars before this one and it was the same story for them too. One car though, a 99 Vette, could barely keep a charge for 4-5 days. Turns out it had a bad grounding or something and juice was constantly leaking from it. ------------------ |

It was in my daily driver, but anytime I let it sit, the stoopid alarm drained the battey, disconnected the alarm and stopped the problem. Lojack here in LA has a 100% recovery. I think it depends on where one lives which is best. ALL the cops here, supposedly (they tell us anyhow) have Lojack systems, and this allows them to break in somewhere with a warrent if the car is stolen. There is a really cool satallite system here, but not sure what it is called. I can find out information if someone wants me to. ------------------ |
