A few months back there was a discussion regarding extended warranties, searching the archives I was unable to pull any info. I believe it was Laddie that had found a hot deal (he is the DEAL DUDE!) would like to hear from the group what kind of prices they have found for the factory extended warranties!

Scott - You must be reading my mind. I was planning to contact Laddie next week about that subject again. He got a dealer quote, for I think was $905, for the extended warranty if bought before your cat is one year old. I will research my saved printed papers on this subject soon, and report. If that is the case, I need to buy it by X-Mas week. I was quoted $1400 for the deal in Phoenix. ------------------ |

Muzz, Larry. Dug-up old post (from June)... here's the price for DC MFG extended warranty. For the following coverage: $0 deducticble He also told me the current mileage doesn't affect the cost. The time from initial receipt of Prowler affects costs (12 month, 24 month & 35 month)." |

Quicksilver, I paid 650.00 for my 84mo/50k warranty at purchase. I guess the dealer (Auto Nation) treated me pretty well. Buying it after the purchase I guess would cost a little more. LOL MRCA2U |

Thanks Laddie, I'll be calling then before Christmas. That will save me $500 over locally. Now I can spend $500 more on the cat elsewhere - yeah!!!!! ------------------ |

I paid $960 for 7yr/50k mile/$0 deductible max coverage and purchased the warranty after the car was one year old. From my experience, buying the warranty from the dealer you bought the car from gives the lowest price. Also, I've heard some stories that if you didn't buy the warranty from the dealer doing the extended warranty work, then that dealer may give you a hard time. |

Hi Nyle. You can purchase the DC warranty after a the car is one year old. You have the ability to purchase up to the 36 month limit. The only point was that the dealer cost & price changes after each incremental year (12 month, 24 month). I don 't know what the dealer costs differentials are... (I think the price may have been $100). |

My Cat will be three years old in July 2001. Other than the recalls and normal service, I have not had any other work done on the car. I am wondering if the extended warranty is really worth it. Maybe I have just been lucky and not needed warranty work. |

Is the extended warranty limited to the original buyer? My cat was 1 month and 658 miles old when I got it. ------------------ |

Watch out on some of those aftermarket warranties. When I brought my pick-up new, I thought I was getting a GM warranty. Come to find out that is was an aftermarket one and dealers don't like it and it does not cover S***. This time I made sure it was a Chrysler warranty. I got the 7year/75,000 mile one. I think it cost me like $1500. |

Debbie - Good point on above post. I read recently that one aftermarket company providing extended warranties went under and left many owners with absolutely, NOTHING. Buyer Beware |

JP I would be interested in a 50,000- 75,000, 7 year low deductible, reason being that when I sell someday having this warranty would help seal the deal! ------------------ This message has been edited by Quicksilver on 11-26-2000 at 09:01 AM |

Daryl brings up a good point. Buying service contract elsewhere, then using at your local dealer? My 97 Dakota has ext. warranty, the factory issued plastic card reads on backside: Plan service will be provided or assisted by the Dealer who sold you the Plan, at his place of busines, using genuine Mopar new or authorized remanufactured parts. In the event you cannot return to the selling Dealer for service, you MAY REQUEST service from any Chrysler, Plymouth, Dodge,or Jeep Dealer within the 50 states, etc. I highlighted MAY REQUEST, what are they really saying here? I don't want to go to a different service dealer and be put in stall 87, when they have only 86 stalls. Laddie,CJ,and Bob - maybe you might get us a solid DC explanation of "may request". This could bring new light on this subject. ------------------ |

QuickSilver, I'll see if I can price it for you tomorrow. If I haven't posted a reply within a couple of days, feel free to e-mail or remind me. I hate the thought of people paying too much which is what almost happened to me. ------------------ |

Quicksilver, I stopped by the dealership today and spoke with Chauncey. He said he would go on a case by case basis. I told him I would work the deal through him. I can probably get you the 7 year/50,000 mile maximum care with $50 deductible for approximately $700. Are these the type of figures you are looking for? Let me know. If you want a different deductible or different mileage, also let me know. Once you give me the exact numbers you want, I'll be able to get an exact price. ------------------ |

JP thanks for all the leg work! I agree with HI HO on the value an extended warranty gives, but I think with this car if you sell to a private party it would help to put the buyers mind at ease. Another thought is to wait till you are about ready to sell then buy the warranty? On the other hand if you keep your Kat past the three year 36,000 miles and have a break down I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap to fix! Wow am I confused now or What! JP I'll PM you when I figure this thing out! ------------------ This message has been edited by Quicksilver on 11-27-2000 at 06:43 PM |
