If you didn't live where you curently live, where would you move to? How many states have you been in? I have been in all 50 states and about the only place I don't care to return is Atlantic City. I think it is a dump. Not too far south of there it is beautiful but Atlantic City if filthy. If you live in Atlantic City, I am sorry. I like Colorado, Washington State, Tennessee, the Carolinas, Vermont and upstate N.Y. the best. Not the city, although it is okay to visit. I wouldn't want to live there. |

Ed, I've seen twenty-six states, Canada, and Mexico several times. I could see a move to Loveland or Ft. Collins, Colo., but I visualize my retired years on a big Houseboat at Lake Mead, Nev. or Lake Powell, Az. We could have Prowler parties on the houseboat: water ballon fights, BBQ steaks, power boating, being rowdy, and big cash prises playing the Gary C. dartboard game. |

Only the conscious one. I think I've realized I was dreaming only a few times, where I then took control of what powers I could muster, but the only way I could fly was with flapping my arms. And even that didn't work too well. One day I'd like to see if hypnosis is real. |

There could be a lot of choices. 1) Hazen, you are in heaven in HI, 2) Southern Alaska, 3) Williams or Sedona, AZ, 4) anywhere GaryC goes... hehehe! I know, but I couldn't resist. Ed- I will agree with you on AC, the most dirty city with the most negative nasty people. Oh yea... let's not forget about anywhere in BC, Canada... it's awesome. |

Do you count a drive thru and not even stopping in the state as being there. I too have not traveled and stopped much. JUST FLY THRU I did have the opportunity to spend 3 1/2 months in Hawaii. Hazen it is a beautiful place but.....how many times can you cruise around one island. and ever time I went across the island I got wet...had 2 motorcycles while I was there....run out of gas on LIKE LIKE HWY late one Sunday night. Tennessee beautiful fall foilage in the mountains AH yes I think this would be nice place to retire. Lots of nice lakes.....and places to cruise winding roads PSC: when are you ordering the boat. Now I would recommend a BIG ONE because when Nyles and I come out we might pick up a few other cat owners and we don't want to be cramped....A slide off the top is fun too.....Hey can you get a ferry/houseboat so we could keep our cats close to us? hehehe ------------------ |

If I had a choice, I would probably still be living in Colorado!!! Have always planned on retiring there, but now with grandkids here.......don't know....but that's another 10 years down the road (we're not all like you, Gary!) If I counted right, 26 states.....most of them west of the Mississippi! Love the West. My ideal retirement would be to have my log cabin on a lake in the mountains of Colorado! Then I'll get my St. Bernard! And of course my kids and grandkids are going to have to move there, too! Have lived in Michigan 3 times, Colorado 2, Ohio 1, and Utah 1. there are a couple where I have only driven thru but most of them, over 45, I have spent some time in them. Rhode Island, Connecticut, Delaware are the only three I can think of that I haven't spent at least one night. I may have missed spending the night in Kansas or Iowa, too. The Canadian Rockies (Banff-Lake Louise) are unbelievable but I was just considering the U.S. I hate Mexico unless you go waaaaay south. Costa Rico and Columbia are beautiful, too but I don't know about living there. The drive from Colorado Springs down to Durango is about as good as it gets. Washington State has a lot to offer and I have only been to Oregon once and need to go back and spend more time to see it all. |

Ed, the drive from Durango to Silverton on the Million Dollar highway is cooler......! Or Independence Pass (either go to or coming from Aspen) is incredible, particularly during the Fall color time. Or Crested Butte where they have the most spectacular Aspen forest I have ever seen... Or on top the Blue Mesa which has an incredible, lush forest area with lots of streams and ponds and the most beautiful wildflowers in the Spring.... Or, or, or, or, or, Awwwwwwww, I wanna go back right now....I'm making myself homesick!!!!! [This message has been edited by CJ (edited 09-24-2000).] |

I have visited all 50 states and have lived in 7. Lived in Alaska for the first 32 years of my life and Colorado for 7 years. Have seen all the snow I ever want to, and am still trying to thaw out from the time there. Now living in Arizona, but decided last week to build a new house on our property in Las Vegas, NV. Will have a view of the strip and a 5000 sq. ft. garage. What more could a guy want. |

CJ, I was including the leg of the trip from Durango to Silverton in the Colo. Springs to Durango. Your right that IS the best part of the trip, but all of it is beautiful. Been to Crested Butte but not thru Independence Pass or on Blue Mesa. We stayed in Purgatory a few times, which is really nice. I really like Durango. We took the train trip once, also. That was pretty nice but a little long. |

The train trip is great, but you're right it is long. You can, however, split the trip. Train up, bus back, or bus up, train back. Makes it a lot shorter! |

I've visited about 40 states. Driven to Alaska twice. Recommend that drive sometime in your life. You drive thru some of the most beautiful scenery around, God's country I call it. Drove it once in the fall, and once in the winter. Worked for another division of Metalcrafters for 7 years that handled all of DC's promotional vehicles for there advertising, (TV commercials, print ad's). Transported vehicles to the film locations around North America. Wonderful way to see the country. ------------------ |

Norb, I have driven as far north as Jasper and Edmonton, BC but never in Alberta. Are the roads any good once you get that far north. I heard you are almost guaranteed a broken windshield and really nicked up paint? Any truth to that? |

I've been to 48 out of 50 states all on business and have missed Montana (yes, everyone tells me ya gotta to go there) and Alaska. I've been to Germany 10 times, Spain, Canada, Mexico, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. Been traveling for 24 years for business-related activities. I could live anywhere and really enjoy California Bay area but it's easier living back in the Midwest. We miss out on clear roads from December through late April but the rest of our year's great. Can't think of anywhere else I'd live. [This message has been edited by Paul (edited 09-25-2000).] |

Ed, First time I took the advise of several truckers since the mileage on the map book looked approx. the same and ended up on a gravel road for about 300 miles. (up the coastal side of BC) Could travel 45 - 50 mph. Came back the Al-Can Hwy. Was pretty good road. Every now and then needed to watch out for pot holes. Narrow road in some spots, but I was also driving an 18 wheeler. 2nd time it was in January and pretty much drove on snow covered roads after entering BC. Road wad a lot smoother due to all the pot holes being filled in with ice. Nothern BC and the Yukon Territory are just wonderful. ------------------ |

Norb, thanks for the info. I doubt if I would want to drive a M/C up there in the winter, and probably not even in the summer. I would like to make the drive, however. Thanks again. |
