During our Smokies Cruise I had a close look at Richard's Borla exhaust system with the carbon fiber tips. Since they don't sell them anymore I thought I try to make my own. So I bought a couple of real carbon fiber mufflers on ebay for $10 a piece (careful with the shipping costs on those things, shipping was $60 for both?!?! ) and had a local muffler shop fabricate a straight through all stainless system from the cats back. Although the mufflers' diameter is bigger than the stock diameter they to not protrude any deeper towards the center of the vehicle or any higher than the stock ones. That makes their center to be further apart than the stock ones but leaves room for a rear valance which I might get soon. Total: $390. (BTW: it rained on the way to the shop, therefor the mess on the car...) |

Those are real nice ... love the look..... a little black paint on the inside of the tips may be an idea.... as good, or better than my factory Carbon fiber tips.. a job well done ... |

Good idea on the black paint. Would you believe I just painted the inside of one of my pipes on my PT today. Looks great,,gives it an exhaust look. |

Halicat, thanks for lightning up the picture. Based on my experiences with the stock tips (I removed the stock inserts) I'll wait a while and see if they turn black by themselves with the help of the exhaust. |

My biggest concern is that there is someone trying to emulate Richard. It's the end of the world, I tell ya...the end. lol Looks good but a picture from the side/above in natural light would be a better view so we can truly appreciate it. |

quote: Good point, but I think it's an optical illusion, the new one is bigger: I think the car reacts quicker now to throttle hits. It might be my imagination, it's hard to catch in numbers. But since I also changed the air intake to a K&N cold air intake the combination of intake and exhaust might have made a difference one can tell. |
