After much debate, I finally removed my front bumpers yesterday. I weighted the pros & cons and basically decided the appearance wow factor outweighted the safety factor. In my opinion, much of the appearance wow of the cool custom painted Bra by Kal was taken away by the black bumpers.

I personally love the safety & look of painted bumpers, especially on reds, candys and oranges, but after using photo suite the combo of yellow painted bumpers in front of the painted bra just didn't suit me. If I didn't have the bra, I probably would have painted mine yellow like Ken.

It took me exactly 1 hour and 19 minutes to remove them. I used the stubby 13mm wrench and 13mm closed ratchet that Koastal Cat showed in his post of 2/27/02. I got these tools at Sears. I used mechanics gloves to save the knuckles. Call me a wimp if you want, but I'm pretty clumsy and have banged my hands, fingers and knuckles too many times. All the info I got by way of my search on POA was EXTREMELY helpful. Thanks to all that posted their experiences.

I installed the Tom Mills kit. I took me 42 minutes to install the kit with a couple of breaks to look up and see replays of the UNC Vs. UCONN game in progress. Good quality product.

I'll post some before and after pixs once I get the befores downsized.

Someone posted on general they had a head on and no bags were deployed with bumpers, I had wreck from the side and both bags went off and I HAD NO BUMPERS. The way I see it knowing about both of these wrecks I would take the bumpers off, wouldn't you? Ooops you did.

I am sure it looks WAY better.

AC -
2 Mich Lights at break between removal and install.
2 more at breaks while catching replays of UNC vs. UCONN game. Thus, 42 minutes on the install.

Marty -
Already have gotten 2 thumbs ups on the look!

AC -
Thanks for the B-day wish. My buddies are really messing with me here in Greensboro. Hearse for a limo Sat. night as we took our sons to the Monster Trucks show. (Grave Digger is a bada**!)
No, not a brithday gift for me. A Christmas gift for the Kat!

Chromer -
I can't believe you asked "what's next?".
Removing the bumpers now show those alloy A-arms. That's gonna drive me crazy until I get those bad boys chromed!

Randy, it sure looks nice. Well the back ones are still on. Yellow is one of my favorites and you made the yellow even better.

I removed my fronts on both my Kats!!!I did Tom Mills on One and Products by Gary on the other. I wanted a different look. Your Kat looks great with the Bra, and the front Bumpers removed! Now Paint the Rears yellow and get one of Jays shimmers for it and your all set!

Randy.

That's tight. New word I learned at the Superdome this weekend. That looks outstanding. Brings out the flames and agree with Gary C on the Hot Rod look.

Also agree with Chuck. Paint the rear bumpers yellow. Something like this...

Chuck & Laddie:

I agree on painting the backs yellow. You two have good tastes, so you reaffirm my thinking.

Lets see... Bra, then bumpers off to show bra, then A arms exposed so have to chrome them, then back bumpers need to be painted, then different color shimmers because bumpers painted,.....

Mods are like Kudzu here in the south. You take care of one vine and 4 more appear!

GenoTex -

Those wheels are sweet. I think George Maxie has the same wheels. I like AC's too. I also like Yeller Kat's billet caps and lugnuts.

BUT...., I might be in the minority here, but I like the stock wheels. In spite of the center caps and the peeling/blistering I think they look great on the car. They fit the larger than life look of the rear and the openness of the front.

I agree with that. I don't have to look at my own and I try to avoid Bob Goetz on cruises.

Randy,

Your flames look awesome…!

Removing the front bumpers really cleans up the appearance. Plus, provides a better view of the flames.

Glad my notes helped.
