Drove 2 1/2 hours to get there, cooled down about 45 min before running.
First run Second run Third run Fourth run The first three were test and tune, the fourth was a bracket run. I had to post 14 sec cause no roll bar. Then ran for quick time knowing it would be my last. My reaction was all over the board, embarrassing. Could have been in the 12s if I would have settled down. I'll be ready next time. But it has been over a year since at the track. Now I know where this place is, I'll be going back soon. Tons of fun, no Mustang came near me. Ran a pretty hot Firebird, 1 tenth faster than me. BTW the car gets retired in 4 weeks, no one wants to race up here or will come up. Times are pretty good, but will be better next time, with a more at ease driver and some go go gas. ------------------ |

CJ Your not kidding. First two runs the tree started way before I was ready. The last run was right after a long delay to clear the track. O well, it will get better. Laddie first run started in 1st, wanted to get max rpm out of it. but shifted to soon to drive. The car went into second, back down to first then back to second gear. Second run I fell asleep at the line, auto stick in first then drive. Third was auto, with rpms at 1200 with line lock. spun them pretty good in first and beginning of second. Fourth run was auto, started at idle. spun in first again but not as bad, still spun hitting second. Never checked air pressure. I was like a fish out of water out there. But the car has a lot of low end torque. ------------------ See me WAX a Roush See me WAX a Cobra This message has been edited by jd2ksilver on 09-20-2001 at 08:39 AM |

NIIIIIIIIIICE John! If you have the stock tires letting to much air out won't help due to the stiff sidewalls. I tried it and traction was worse. Best thing I found was warm them up a bit and hope the track has good traction. Last time I went to the track it seemed to get better as more rubber got laid down and the temps cooled a little bit. Still had some spin off the line but not as much. Sure you wouldn't want to bring the car out of retirement next year in Colorado? ------------------ |

Just a few comments on the above: 1. First, you need to tighten the loose nut behind the steering wheel! quote:or was that shifty driver errors? lol! 2. Bald tires do not make for slicks, even though they look the same! quote:Why wait 4 weeks to re-tire? Tire Rack has a sale right now! lol! 3. Leave the car in drive (eliminates operator error!) The computer doesn't fall asleep at the line! lol! 4. Mike K was with you in spirit the whole time!! 5. Reaction times........did you get twenty winks? Take No-Doze before trying this again. 6. Good gas = good idea!!! |

Mike. Bracket racing is a handicapped type of racing to equalize cars with different performance & speed. Also, puts a little more pressure on driver skills not just how much money you spent on making car go fast... With bracket racing you post an expected ET time before each race (I'll call it a bracket ET). The objective is to beat the other car across the finish line without going under your bracket ET. If you go faster than your bracketed ET you loose unless both drivers go under. Than the closses to the bracket ET wins that race as long as neither driver Red Lighted at starting line. For example... A stock Prowler posts a bracket ET of 15.0 & a PT Cruiser posts a bracket of 18.0 ET. At the starting line (christmas tree) the PT Cruiser gets a 3 second head start down the strip. If both cars actual ET times were exact & matched their bracket ET they would cross the finish line in a dead heat. However, this is where the reaction time off the line comes into play. A perfect reaction time is .5 seconds for bracket racing. If you leave before the .5 you Red Light (and automatically loose). So, you have to get as close to the .5 reaction & as close as you can to your bracket ET & of course cross the line 1st. This is where the driver skill in reading the starting lights & getting off the line comes into play.... Reaction time is not part of your ET time. So, if you are just running test & tune runs, you could sit at the starting line for 2 seconds & still get a 15.0 ET for the 1/4. ------------------ |
