On other forums I am on this is how selling and purchasing works. A member posts a For Sale (FS) or Wanted To Buy (WTB) add. A member responds to the add by posting in the ad and then sends a PM for verification. This then lets everyone on the site know who sold or purchased the item and who may be next in line if the sale falls through. This post by no means is to cause any bad blood or arguments, I just want it to be fair to ALL members. If I am out of line posting this Please let me know and I will take it down ASAP. Thank You, LD |

While I agree with your line of thinking, there are some who send a PM but don't post a PM was sent. Some folks do not want it known that they are interested in an item, have made an offer, or purchased something. We simply need to trust the integrity of the seller to do right by all of us and the privacy of a transaction if that is how the buyer wants it. JMO |

This is why I usually like PM responses only. Posting "PM sent" can deter others from inquiring. |

I have been around a long time and I don't think I have EVER observed anything fishy going on. That is not to say it has never happened, but I am certainly not aware of it. If I want to sell something, I really don't care who buys it. First guy that commits gets it. I posted that I was going to scrap my damaged trunk lid. Tom Mills was first to respond. I was GIVING it away. I later got 4 offers to buy it but I told Tom he could have it for Free. He only wanted the connectors and I cut it up so he could have it free. If you tell someone something, follow through. I would never have posted that transaction but I want to emphasize the point that I disagree that there is a lot of funny business going on with the free want ads. Most of the folks who have been on here for years are VERY trustworthy & dependable. That said, there are folks here I would not buy from, for personal reasons. Posting "PM sent" does not necessarily give anyone a place in line. Often a prospective buyer will offer a negotiated price and this will immediately negate their priority sequence. Or they might not be happy with the shipping price. So if you see "PM sent" or "I will take it", don't be afraid to still pursue the item. I sell quite a bit on here. For the most part, it has always gone well. I am aware of a couple of instances of "fishy business" but you just have to move on from those. I am always fair and transparent when selling but there are some on here that I would not sell to for personal reasons. I would say most of the owners on this site are trustworthy and dependable, regardless of how long they have been here. This message has been edited by beachcat on 03-22-2015 at 05:34 PM |

Well looks like I am overruled and that is fine, no hard feelings. That is the way I felt and my opinion. As you get to know me, I am a honest person and do not keep anything back. I would not screw anyone and would want to be treated the same in return. |

I have sold Prowler diecast cars and memorabilia several times on this site. This is how I handled it. I post that I will be selling items. I choose a day and time to post the ad. I post in the early evening so that the majority of owners will be able to see the ad (home for the evening). I set a price, don't negotiate. No favorites. They can post on the thread, send me a pm or an email. I list the responses by the time posted, emailed or pm, using EST time. Has worked for me.
