So our plan is to depart Pittsburgh, PA on June 30th 2018 for the start of our epic cross country trek. First stop will be Deadwood, SD arriving Sunday July 1st. We'll spend the next 3 weeks exploring the western US and the plan is to arrive in Santa Monica on Sunday July 22nd. We'll then proceed to follow Route 66 across the country to Chicago, then homeward bound. We'd love to hook up with fellow prowler owners along the way! We're starting to put together our bucket lists so we can plan our route. Here is where we need your help. Please post recommendations for "can't miss" sites either on or off the beaten path. Specifically, places you have visited that left a lasting impression. Could be National Parks, State Parks, Monuments, Museums, attractions, auto related shop visits and the like. We've got just a little over a year to get this planned and booked. Please, Please, Please provide some input. Thanks in advance....Steve & Amanda Clark |

Got it. I would highly recommend visiting the NORTH rim of the Grand Canyon, Bryce Canyon and Zion Natl. Park. We stayed in Kanab, UT which was just about in the center of those three. A couple of hours to all three of them. The side road at the North rim is actually a great viewing area, turn left before you get to the lodge. The North rim is not nearly as crowded and there are some really great views. Kanab is right on the state line above AZ. Crater Lake is beautiful. I wouldn't bother with Four Corners. Glacier Nat. Park is outstanding but fairly far away. The coast along southern Oregon is outstanding, also. |

Hi Steve, it was good to see you and Amanda in Michigan. Three spots on Rt. 66 that I would highly recommend is the towns Williams, Seligman & Oatman AZ. Best pie anywhere in Williams. The famous Road Kill Cafe in Seligman is fantastic and you can feed the donkeys roaming the streets of Oatman. These three towns are Route 66. Jer |

Driving through the scenic roads of Southern Utah is a must. There are several National Parks in that part of the state...you can drive for miles between the parks on 2 lane roads and hardly ever see another car. Also the drive from Boise, Idaho to Portland, Oregon along the Columba River has outstanding scenery. |

Coral pink sand dunes and goblin valley in southern Utah are both great. Watch the scorpions at the pink sand dunes. |

Make sure to visit the Buffalo Bill Cody Museum while in Cody. Western art upstairs. The Winchester Gun collection in the basement. If you happen to go near Lincoln, NE, plan to stop at the American Museum of Speed. You won't be disappointed. Stop at Dead Horse point while in Moab. |

No problem, the more the merrier. Book your rooms now, cancel later if it does not work out. The Lodges at the National parks fill fast. San Francisco may be a challenge also for accomodations. |

I think we are going to take 70 through indy and then 74. This should avoid construction, Chicago, and some truck traffic. |

Will do. Long range weather is looking great (If you believe weathermen). Thanks to this forum I was able to find a pair of recall ball joints and used John Collins photos as a guide to replacing them. After doing the driver's side and inspecting the old ball joint (which was pretty well lubed and in very good condition) I decided to leave the passenger side as is. This way I have a spare in the event I need it. Figure if I take a bunch of tools, gas can, and a bunch of detailing supplies - I won't have any mechanical issues, won't run out of gas, and won't hit much rain. Here's hoping! We'll take a bunch of photos along the way. I still remember praying for a gas station or two on the way out to Denver in 2002 with you and Sandy. |
