Gary - gosh, let's see, who lives close to Gatlinburg. I know, I'll check the Prowler Registry. Look - Gary Archer can drive there quicker than he can down a six pack!! Bob - We'll just let Gary do the planning. That way we can have more fun mountain cruising!! Actually - I am hoping for some input from a lot of people and I do NOT plan to take the lead on this. I will assist -that means help out, not do all of it!!

Marty, yes we are 1 hour 15 min. from Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. Talked to Kelly about this, she didn't say no, would need some help. This is a great place to vacation, don't know how an event would be, it's awfully crowded around there in the summer. It would be tough keeping 60+ prowlers together without someone getting left behind. ( maybe get some police assistance).Just driving into town is like stop-n-go for 10 miles (about an hour travel time). Once in town, the best way to get around is walk. Could set up some cruses to go out of town. I think your right, do it during the week and travel to-from on weekends. How does everyone feel about a week long event? Anybody interested in this? If there's enough response, we will check into some things. Gary ------------------ |

Gary, I'm in Knoxville one week out of every month. Laddie and I planned on meeting in the September / October time frame in Knoxville to look around. My next trip to the area will be in July - perhaps we can get together to discuss details then. Regards, Steve ------------------ |

Steve - that sounds like a good idea - meeting in the area. I have requested info from Gatlinburg Tourism and will try to get a listing of major events already being planned for next summer so we can help choose a good date (meaning no huge event going on like the Great Smoky Mountain Gift Show) Gary- this will give Kelly something to do while you are not around. Marty....I wonder if Kelly is reading these posts??? If my head is all knotted up next week you'll know! There are several rod shows there every year, would we want to be there then or schedule to miss them? Steve: Are you going to be there on a weekend or weekday? Let me kick this around with Kelly this weekend, then maybe we can set something up. Bob will have to bring some extra Prowler coolers (weekenders)

Marty, in addition to you & Steve, Phil G., Rich W., Ed M. & me all talked a little in Colordo. All are willing to help and now with Gary H. near there, we could build a team. Someone local is still key... ------------------ |

I am ready to help. Floyd Garretts Muscle Car Museum is in Sevierville TN. I was thinking maybe we could work something out with Road Atlanta to run on the track. That may be too far from Gatlinburg though. Also the Panoz factory is in GA possibly we could arrange a tour. The Biltmore House is in Asheville NC. Crusing Blue Ridge would be cool. There is also a highway in SC which runs along the western border that was recently named one of the top ten cruising roads by one of the major car magazines. just some ideas. ------------------ |

I'm glad the ball is rolling. I was under the impression that some ideas were already on the drawing board for this 2003 event? Is this area in the Smoky Mountains? I went to school with Spoons, and I don't know much about the colonies east of the Mississippi River I'm confident that volunteers will step up to help out,,,,,,its too much for any one or two people to put together. Keep us posted as time goes by! ------------------ |

Colorado and Gatlinburg had been discussed last year as event possibilities for 2002 and 2003. Haven't spent much time in Gatlinburg, but when we did pass through, it seemed pretty busy and pretty crowded. What is the parking like there? It's a great area with the Smokey Mts., for sure!!! I'm not close (but then I wasn't for Colorado either), but if there is anything I can help with, you only need to ask! |

Gang If Gatlinburg is so busy and crowded ,should we perhaps look for another site area to hold this event?? ------------------ |

quote: Mike/CJ - it's nice to have people step up to help!! Regarding being crowded, that would be my #1 concern. AS I stated earlier, I have requested info from Gatlinburg Tourism on events already planned there in 2003 and have suggested that if we go mthere it be a mid week event with travel to and from on week ends - which is heaviest traffic times there. I don't really know who suggested Gatlinburg originally (and it doesn't really matter) As CJ has said, mountain driving is always very scenic. I guess it needs to be determined if this will be the sight or should we entertain other locations. This seems a little strange to me because usually a sight is picked because someone who is planning lives there. THe important thing to me is we plan something so we all can get together. It really is about the POA people!! (and Jack) Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |

Marty. Actually, Gary C. & I picked this site about 1&1/2 years ago. The primary reason was the location. Being close to the Northeast, Southeast & Midwest & Texas. It is quite a distance for the West coast owners. However, we just haven't anything close for the Florida & Northeast owners. Secondily, there are lots of other Car events hosted in that area along with MCs... It seemed to be good location for some scenic drives & good location to draw in some other Prowler owners who may not have had the opportunity to attend a larger gathering of Prowler Kats... I went through there last August after Woodward & side trip through PA. We spent one night & couple of days cruising around & there was NO traffic (this was during the week). We were able to check out a couple of good eating places recommended by Ed M. I think it's a good location, but I'm open to anywhere... I just think we should do an event on the east side... ------------------ |

Laddie - I hope you haven't interpreted my posts as being opposed to Gatlinburg. Rebecca & I visit there regularly. I believe the thinking about being closer for East Coast/Florida owners is logical. I know prior to our time, an event was held at Grand Canyon and I assume the thinking is to have people continue to host regional events and move the "National" event around the country from year to year. So far, there hasn't been anybody dead set against Gatlinburg, so maybe we should go ahead and schedule a time for several of us to meet there. If that is the direction we are going my only business trip between now and Labor day that would preclude me from attending would be July 23- August 9 (Minneapolis - I will have to put up with that Goetz guy again and Anaheim - who knows who I will see there!) Maybe others can chime in and we can figure when to meet. Happy Prowling Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 06-20-2002 at 06:13 PM |

Any thought about Ashville, NC it is not that far from Gatlinburg, you would have almost instant access to the Blue ridge pwy north or south for cruises, easy ride to indian reservations and other parks and forests. It is a fairly large town and would most likley be easy to host an event not to mention direct marjor access from all directions via interstate....just an idea ------------------ |

Marty. No wrong interpretation. I just figured I'd give little more background on how & why that area was selected for the viewers... And, there are lots more viewers today... |

Gatlinburg Tourism Dept just called and I asked for schedule info on citywide meetings, events, tradeshows, so we could avoid those dates. I asked for basic hotel pricing info for hotels with restaurants/lounges for a group size of 65 to 80 rooms with an average stay of 4 nights anytime from May through September. I told her we would be flexible on timing depending on pricing and she stated that mid week would (as we thought) probably be better. She is putting out request for rates based on the above outline and will advise when she has responses from hotels. Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |

Pigeon Forge has developed big time and has a lot of hotels etc.. Would be a better alternate than Ashville, I think. Who knows, Dolly might be bouncing around town;-) ------------------ |

Laddie, Ed, Marty - looks like you now have many volunteers going to work for you. Good luck on the hours of work ahead of you, and remember that the rewards of putting together an event are so fulfilling. |
