I was just curious as to how many of you are bringing a trailer to Louisville? This will be my first time pulling one overnight and I am also curious if those of you who have been using them, do anything special to secure them for the night? ------------------ |

Dave, I use a matching set of hitch lock for my trailer when it's hooked to my car. The Locks are keyed alike and used a barrel style key. One is for the ball mount to the receiver and the other locks the coupler to the ball. When it's not attached to my car, I use an Kryptonite cable lock manufactured by the same company to lock it to another owners trailer or an anchor post of some kind. Truth is I seldom unhook the trailer for any reason since it's so easy to tow and park. I sell the two lock set for $31.95 and cables for $21.95 at FMB, This message has been edited by Larry Lord on 04-28-2002 at 11:41 AM |

I forgot to ask,,,How do you like your FMB trailer stand? |

The trailer stand is great. I leave the brackets on the axle all the time and just carry the arms in the trailer. I had hoped to be able to use the stand here at the house, but the garage ceiling is too low for the hitch when its standing up, so I just store it at my big garage at my Father-in-Law's. ------------------ |

Dave - I have two pad locks keyed the same (from Home Depot)and take a chain to wrap around a light post or tee, etc. In Dallas last month, I asked the vallet where the "safest" lot was at ther hotel and chined it a light post where it was very visable also. I am bringing my trailer to Louisville and taking it with me to the show. I have the barrel locks as well both for the receiver and the tongue latch release. I have not left my trailer anywhere unattached from the car while traveling except last year at Woodward. CJ was gracious enough to let me leave it in her garage while we where there. If I left it in a parking lot, even chained, I would worry to much to enjoy myself. But I am paranoid that way. ------------------ |

We will also have a trailer with us in Louisville. The only other place I've taken it and left it unattended was the weekend in Indy last year. It was in a secure place behind the hotel with the appropriate locks and had no problem. Are we allowed to take them on the infield? |

CJ: I believe we are allowed to take them to the infield. I am planning on taking mine. ------------------ |

CJ - Yes our trailers are allowed in infield. They will be inspected along with trunks of all cars. Rules for what is allowed/not allowed will be made official sometime next week. Presently for Derby week, no coolers, bottles, glass, etc allowwed. Chairs, bankets, food in clear wrap OK. fixxum - some folks here might want to moonshine, but that's better than leaving one in Downtown Chicago where some people think they might use them to upgrade to more living space than their current apartments. Stupid new security rule, so they say. Of course they sell beer, mixed drinks, and soft drinks in the infield also - can you say captive audience? Even crazier, no bottles includes sun tan lotion. I have been told that after this week's Ky Derby acivities are wrapped up, they will have meeting to discuss these issues and will advise prior to car show. Sunscreen in plastic bottles? How are we supposed to carry food with no cooler to put it in? I have a Prowler picnic basket that is lined with styrofoam? No collapsible coolers for soda cans? No bottles of water? |

Yes it is strange, frustrating, and irritating. If I did not have so any of you coming to town for this event I would tell them forget it, but I feel it is beyond that point. I keep telling myself theese POA events are bout the people and cars much more than what we actually do. I assure you I have expressed concerns to them about things like bottles of car cleaning supplies, etc. I have been told that they will review these regulations now that the Ky Derby is over. My hope is that since this is a car show I hope you all will appreciate that I will do my best and will keep you informed. Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |

I do not KNOW anything. I have no written rules, only word of mouth from 30 days ago of what they planned for Ky Derby and a comment that they would review after Ky Derby for car show. When I KNOW something I will post ASAP, until then it would just be speculation. ------------------ Driving my Dream |

Marty, I think everyone will have plenty of time to clean up the cars before we go to the track. We have to be there at 10:30AM, correct? It is not far from the hotel to the track, is it? What I sincerely hope is that no one hides a cooler or other contraband under the hood, above the battery in that rather large space that they probably would never check. ------------------ |

Marty......certainly appreciate all your efforts, but will you ask them one thing? If we are allowed to take our trailers on the infield, what are we supposed to do with all the stuff we store in our trailer? Like coolers and extra soda and cleaning supplies, etc.? |

I have been thinking about that CJ. If they absolutely refuse to yield, I will get one of my company trucks with lock to put "stuff" in. This would really suck. I hope it does not come to this. ------------------ Driving my Dream |

I traded voice mails with Churchill Downs Staff today. They are rewiewing security policies Thursday and the feeling is plastic bottles of cleaning supplies etc. will be allowed. Up to 10' canapies are OK, our trailers are OK but will be looked in just as trunks of other cars are inspected. Chairs, blankets, binoculars, cameras, viseo recorders, cell phones - ALL OK. Probably still not allowing backpacks or coolers. No mention of softdrinks, but policy against bring in alcohol has always been there, but you buy there. I asssume no glass allowed also. Was told they would fax me something in writing by nd of week. Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |
