Has anyone found an adapter for your steering wheel audio controls? I would like to put in a new stereo in the Prowler but I want to be able to use the steering wheel controls. |

I have not used this yet, but I have been looking into what you are talking about and came across this. Metra ASWC-1. This is called a Steering Wheel Control Interface, and the web site indicates it will fit the Prowler, but as I indicated, I am not sure. In the past, like five years ago, companies were starting to make these and they were iffy if they lasted that long. Today things may be different, in that they may work well. If you decide to try it, keep us posted. |

I did some minor research and found this via Crutchfield. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-tsEQ0QRKL89/learn/video-installing-steering-wheel-audio-controls-adapter.html I might give it a try to see if it works with the Prowler. If I do I will keep you all posted. |

quote: I called them, the representative said that they were not successful with the Prowler. He said also their competitor "PAC" also might have this problem with the Prowlers since they use same wire.
If anyone had success with the Prowler please let us know This message has been edited by DrillinU on 10-09-2013 at 01:15 PM |

I upgraded my head unit, speakers and amp to Pioneer equipment. I have a roll-out 7 inch dvd player...Pioneer uses a remote port for steering wheel controls....the existing Prowler interface uses the body controller to change the volume etc...to use the pioneer adapter, you choose the correct wiring/resister from the PAC SWI-RC kit and grab a wire from under the steering wheel..it works perfectly. You want to install an aftermarket stereo in your vehicle, but you hate to give up the convenience of your factory steering wheel radio controls? No problem. PAC's SWI-RC interface allows you to use the steering wheel audio controls in a wide variety of vehicles to command select radios from Alpine, Clarion, Dual, Jensen, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sony. Installation is straightforward — connect a few wires, then program the adapter for your particular car and your stereo, and you'll retain the convenience of your steering wheel controls. The direct connection to the stereo eliminates the need for an infrared emitter, allowing the interface to function even in bright sunlight. Step-by-step LED confirmation makes programming easy. Once connected, the SWI-RC's failsafe memory will learn up to 12 stereo functions, retaining them even if battery power is interrupted. Dimensions: 2"W x 7/8"H x 2-7/8"D. Warranty: 1 year. Important Note: On some vehicles, you may need a voltmeter to locate the correct wires to connect to the SWI-RC. If you have no car audio installation experience, you should consider professional installation. The SWI-RC works with most Alpine, Clarion, Dual, Jensen, JVC, Kenwood, Pioneer, and Sony stereos that have a wired remote control input port or a dedicated steering wheel input, but please call or email us to confirm compatibility with your radio. |

I used the pioneer bt5500 blue tooth with dvd player...1.5 din roll out, All new speakers and a 8" pioneer low profile sub with box, Added a new 5 channel amp and a direct line feeding all this and wow..it's loud and clear. I'll need to look up the model numbers but this was 3 years ago.. |

Thanks for the info Dave, mostly listen to metal and like it loud... The stock infinity sounds good but would like something more powerful.. |
