has anyone had a problem with the key sticking in the ignition and not going all the way back? i know i've had to drop down the panel under steering column and play with the linkage. and key switch went back. this is on a show car? so if i have to be able to get key out period no matter if i have to by-pass this? if i can |

the problem your having is in the shifter system and cable.i suggest you find somebody w/a prowler manual.the problems and fixes are to numerous to post.ie,theres more than one thing that can cause your problem.you need the manual.a while back in one of your posts you had the same problem, and screwed w/the linkage in the column.thats not where the problem lies as you can tell, cause you cant get the key out.what ever you did to the column,i would put back to where it was originally, because that linkage is now out of wack and may keep you from fixing the real problem which is in the shift interlock system itself, which along with the cable is in the center counsel.you really need a manual to fix it,maybe a local dealer will loan you one.every thing in the shift interlock systme has to be adujusted perfectly for the key to come out.if its out of sync it wont. ------------------ This message has been edited by catfish on 01-12-2009 at 03:28 PM |

well besides changing the steering wheel long ago\. the center console was long ago, so the car sat for at least 8-9 months periodically starting and then running and shutting off. so it is not recently at all, but my stereo guy noticed that the linkage cable in column by just lightly tinkering with key just popped back??? the center console linkage was fine. |

the problem is a shift interlock cable adjustment.how to adjust the step by step process is in the manual.sect.21 page 91 and 92.if that doesnt fix it then it has a kinked cable somewhere. ------------------ |

If you are unable to rotate the key back to the lock position to remove, then the problem is a disconnected shift lock cable under the chrome shifter bezel. Lift up bezel and you will see the cable at the 11 o'clock position. Reinstall cable back onto fork and it should allow the key to rotate to the correct position. |
