Hi All I am a new owner of a 99 Prowler which had 1185 miles on it when I picked it up on the 12th. Added 150 miles bringing home to Canada. One of the things that I have had to do for the DOT is to install a daytime running light module. I noted that a couple of years ago posters were asking how to connect. I purchased the module and with a little help from seaching this forum I found the info I needed as to what wires were for in the ignition connector. Other than a little stiffness from contortions I succeeded in the installation and it actually works. Let me know if you want directions on how to do it. Not hard, just awkward. I also have a boat and do a lot of my own installs and thought that it was difficult at times. I have determined that boats are a lot easier to work on. Any Prowler owners in the NW that are also boaters? |

Mickey; Congratulation on your recent Prowler perchase. We use to do a lot of boating in the San Juan and Canadian Gulf Islands. We now limit our boating to Lake Chelan. We have a very active group of Prowler owners from BC, Wash. and Or. that get together every month from April to October. You might want to give Ken Grahame a call @604-929-4245 to obtain a schedule of events for 2009. Look forward to meeting you at a future outing. Bruce Dickinson |

Bruce; Have been in contact with Ken and registered with the NW group. As we are boaters (48 Ft.) we do a lot of cruising. We also live on Vancouver Island so the proposed Sept. cruise will be a must. Look forward to meeting all Prowler owners. Kind of lonely here. I think there is only one other Prowler in Victoria. |

2nd Try. As a new use I am not sure of the size of message so I will do it in two parts. 1- Modual is by Grote [www.grote.com model 44040 DML. Cdn $99.00 after discount. This would be about $36.00 US (joke).I got mine at a Mopar dealer. 2- Unit has three wires - Pink to Accessory wire on ignition connections. Use a tester to ensure there is only power on this line when key is turned on. Check by turning on accesories only. If still on wrong wire. Blue wire goes to the low beam head lamp + wire, and the yellow to the parking light + wire. 3- Remove driver side panel, headlight access panel, and on the inside the driver underdash panel (two screws) and the access cover under the steering wheel (three torx screws). I now have a set of torx drivers. Part 2- installation in new reply. |

Part 2 - Installations. 1- I mounted the module on the verticle surface towards the firewall. Good luck, hope this helps, and the usual disclaimer that I am not responsible for anything. Russ |

Clarification. I locatged the module behind the side panel to the rear of the fuse box on the verticle frame. |

2nd Clarification. To much New Year's last night I guess. To install the wire from the module in the engine compartment to under the dash I drilled an 1/8" hole in the fire wall at the same height as the main wire group from under the dash to the engine compartment. I then fed the wire thru to under the dash where I could pick it up and route safely to the connection point. I also covered this wire with nylon loom (wrap type). A little silicon sealed the wire hole. |

CNote6 While the concept is good it does not meet Canadian daytime running light regs. It must be an approved system which is either a low beam headlight or in the case of my wife"s Audi A4 the fog lights. The lights definately cannot be coloured. I note on the new Audi A5 coupe they use a string of LED's ( I asume) under the headlights for running lights. Gives an eyebrow type look and they are bright. What is uniqe is that when a turn signal is on the one on the turn side goes out so the turn signal is easily seen. |

-- In Europe some states have DRL law. Austria canceld this law past year. There is a strong discussion going on, if it is safer if all cars driving during daylight , with light. Studies showed, if all cars are running with DRL, it produces more CO2 pullucion than a average city does. Aniway, EU wants that all EU Countrys run daytime light, beginning in 2012. In 2011, all new produktion cars must have DRL. So, if I keep my Prowler a couple years, I have to think about a daytime runnig light system, maybe on LED basis. more and more laws, I dont like it . . . -- |

Welcome Mickey, Ken has told me about you getting your Prowler and joining, hope to see you at some of the NW runs. I have the same signal lights as Cnote has posted which come with additional lights that are mounted behind the grill, since mine is a Canadian car these come on with the signal lights as running lights but when the headlights are turned on the grill lights and signals go out , I would like to do the reverse of what you have done, How do I do that? Eric. |

Eric; Looking forward to meeting you. As far as I know there is only one other Prowler I know of in Victoria, which I think I have tracked down so it kind of lonely, in the meantime I have to hang out with other types of rods . In answer to your question, as I assume your factory control module is probably different I not sure what you would do. The module I installed I think works so that as long as no power is sensed until the headlight switch is turned on, the running lights are on. Once the HL switch is turned to park or HL power flows to the module and power from it is cut out to the DRL's and flows normally. As this is a sealed unit I really do not know how to bypass this feature but I will think on it. |

Hi Mickeyroo I hate to disagree with a fellow Prowler owner since your information on daytime running lights is very useful, but I own a Canadian model Prowler along with a Canadian model PT Cruiser and both use the signal lights as Daytime running lights, which are coloured. The Canadian Motor Vehicle Saety Act states in Schedule IV, Part II, Section 108, Paragraph 45,"A daytime running lamp shall be white, yellow or white to yellow, in accordance with sections 3.1.3, 3.1.2 and 3.1.3.1, respectively, of SAE Standard J578, Color Specification (May 1988)." The Act has a whole bunch of other specifications like most government documents but I hope this information clears things up a bit. |

Wyvern; Thanks for the info. This is the first time I've had anything to do with DRL's so I made some assumptions given the module the local Chrysler dealer provided me with. Now I have mine connected I wasn't going to look into it any futher but considering the activity on this topic I see there is a lot of interest in DRL's. The great thing about owner associations is the sharing of knowledge which can be of help to every one. |

Wyvern; You got me going. I tracked down the transport Canada reg. Don't know if understand what they are saying but you are quite right that other lights (highbeam-modified voltage),low bean, and even fog lights. Lights may also be coloured (white, amber, or yellow) to set standards. If turn signals are used the lights must turn off when turning or if the the lights are turned on. They may also be set to not come on if the parking brake is set or the car out of gear. I think to do all this would require a factory set up. |

quote: Great guide, I dont know if they changed it or was a simple oversight, but my blue went to park wire, and yellow to low beam wire... I followed the guide instead of looking at my instructions that came with the unit and to my surpise it light up the opposite way , I just resoldered the wires and it was all good This is the first car I've ever worked on, and was a bit reluctant to drill through the firewall, so I routed the ignition wire through the side panel of the car instead. This module worked great, and easier to install than the canadian tire version. I didn't plan on installing this myself, but my local canadian tire said they can't install it when I took it to them and with only a few days left for inspection I didn't have much choice but to order the part from a local company ($40) and install it myself (free, soldering parts were free as well as I am a solderist by profession. Loving my 01 Mulholland Prowler. Now I am ready for some new upgrades. The first being the speakers... guess I am at the right board for advice !
