The local Dodge dealership Prowler Technician cautioned me about performing a brake job on 'Susie' because 'special alloy' rotors are used which require 'OEM' pads. Well, the factory pad brake dust that accumulates on my front inner rims is very difficult to clean, and accumulates very quickly. So....I discovered that you can purchase aftermarket 'ceramic' pads for the front brakes which reduces the 'problem'. Has anyone installed these after market pads, and are there any 'horror' stories to share, such as 'rotors were destroyed or braking performance was degraded.' Regards, Quincy |

The rear rotors are special - an alumina-ceramic complex. Stick to the standard pads ON THE REAR ONLY. Ceramics are the second required mod (after front splashguards) on the front brakes. No problems reported. Raybestos is the most common, the part number can be found on the Home Page under "Garage" (it's PGD730QS - make sure you get the "QS" at the end for "Quiet Stop", which is their ceramic line). BTW, try the "Search" function - just put in "ceramic" (subject only, all forums) and you will get A LOT of hits (don't put it in for "entire message" or you'll get everyone who lists "ceramic" in their tag line") Suggest you do it. -GRROWL This message has been edited by GRROWL on 12-15-2004 at 07:46 AM |

Use ceramic pads only on the front rotors only. Not recommended for rear rotors they are a composite aluminum metal and ceramic brake pads are not compatible. I went with Bosch ceramic front pads on mine. Toys This message has been edited by toys on 12-15-2004 at 10:16 AM |

I changed to ceramics with no problem. BUT only the fronts of course. Your mechanic was only right about the rear disc set-up. It's a shame your mechanic steered you wrong based on ...oh.... what's a nice word for ignorance? Get used to the fact that you will probably know more about your car than any mechanic. Quincy - I agree with Black Tie in that most dealer do not know of the niances with the Prowler. You did the right thing by asking those on this site. The folks on POA are knowledgeable, experienced and freely give accurate advice on all things pertaining to these great peices of rolling art. |
