Not hard to guess what the POOLKAT does for a living. I know what some of us do but not all. I thought it might be good to share what we all do or what we used to do that enable or enabled us to get our Kats. Here are some links that show what I have been up to and how I make a living. www.totalpoolandspallc.com

Retired now, was Inspector of Petroleum for 31 years. My Part time jobs are what let me buy a Prowler. Work the dock for a oil terminal for last 21 years, still there. For the last 5 years I also tie ships up in Baltimore harbor for 3 different line handling company's. Many other Part time jobs, too many to list, I was working on a Tug boat for about 6 months.

I'm a communications supervisor for a commuter railroad NY/NJ, encompasses satin announcements, sending out mass e-mail notifications on delays, closures, police actions, etc...I own a few rental properties to keep me busy in my spare time, wife is a Special Ed teacher, (that's how she has the training to put up with me).

Prior to my work with the railroad I owned a parking lot for 16 years, it was very good to me.

I am a Certified Professional Locksmith per the standards of the Associated Locksmith's Association of America.

I started working as a Locksmith in the late '70's but have also worked auto parts and held an ASE Parts Counter Certification until recently.

One of the area's I did not keep up with within the Locksmith field has been Automotive related as it seems to have become a specialty within the industry.

I do have the ability to do some "Bench work" like re-keying the locks on Prowler trailers to match the key for the car and typically have the tools and parts needed to do this as a service for the owners at events I attend.

A crane operator for 26 yrs., the last 21, operating and climbing for a billboard company. Had a fear of heights for a couple of weeks when I started climbing boards, it's now like walking on the ground but with a much better view, one most don't get (or want) to experience, but some boards being 220' to 260' above Hollywood can give incredible sunrises

4 years in the Air Force, retired from IBM and still working full time. I worked at IBM a total of 37 years. 25 years as a regular employee and was then offered a bridge to retirement. I did not really have a choice as the writing was on the wall my job was going away. However I never missed a day of work and worked 12 years more years at IBM in a different department as a contract employee, but at a much reduced salary and no benefits. My contract employee job was eventually outsourced to Brazil. One of the IBM Business partners I supported while I worked as a contract employee offered me a job and I am going on 7 years now working full time for them. The company is located in Deerfield IL. and I work from my home in GA. I coordinate all the business with IBM. Ive been either in the military or working for a total 46 years now. I am just 1 month shy of 67 years old now and hope to fully retire in 3 to 5 years. My job title is administrative customer support rep.

Retired from UPS after 38 years. Started as a package car driver in Balboa/Newport Beach Ca. Became a tractor trailer driver for a few years, then into management, trained tractor trailer drivers for a few years then the best job I ever had being retired. We own several rental properties in the area. I have worked in the Drag Racing arena off and on for the past 40 years. Worked for Dick Loehr, Jim Liberman, Arnie Beswick and Roger Lindamood in the early years. Mostly for Jim Dunn and Tony & Frank Pedregon in recent years, not traveling with the race car anymore, doing mostly consulting work now.

Piping Designer. Piped up power plants, chemical plants, refineries, onshore and offshore drilling rigs, skids, & nuclear power plants. Even designed an offshore rig mounted on an iceburg and towed from site to site, moored to ocean floor for drilling - only one of its kind.
Also can do other discipline drafting needs (electrical/civil/structural/mechanical/instrumentation and controls, architecture)
Have worked fast foods, donut shops, armed/unarmed security guard at construction sites, hospitals, and funny farms, 1 hour photo labs, camera sales, fence builder, gun sales, and several other misc. odd jobs when drafting/designing wasn't hiring.

I'm a door-to-door gynecologist/vacuum cleaner salesman.

I go up to the house,.... hide my Electrolux in the shrubbery and ring the doorbell.....

If the lady of the house is good looking, I sell her on the advantages of door-to-door gynecology.....but....

If a 475 lb gal that looks like a sumo wrestler comes to the door I quickly grab the sweeper from the bushes and say "You wanna buy a vacuum cleaner"?

Working as a Locksmith enabled me to purchase my Prowler but I do have experience in the following areas as well.

Auto Body Shop Tech.

Auto Dealer Parts Department.

Aftermarket Auto Parts Stores. (ASE Counter Person Certification)

Appliance Parts Co.

Petroleum Company, Dispatcher.

I have been involved with building many garages and a couple houses from the ground up.

I rebuilt my first engine before I was 21 years old and have typically done the majority of repairs on my own cars.

I also worked in an automotive junk yard for a while.

Over the years I have found it is easier to enjoy the automotive hobby when I am not involved in it for a living.

I can imagine the wealth of information you gained by working in the yard. I use to love picking through them, now days they are all cleaned up and computerized.

I didn't actually work there very long as an employee, it was one of those deals where a longtime friend begs you to come work for them over the course of many years....then it does not work out and the friendship suffers.
The cool part is that I did their Lock work and had the run of the place for a good ten plus years. Having keys to the place made it convenient when I needed something after hours like a tow truck or a part.
This guy really took care of his employees. When he built the dismantling bays, he installed a heated concrete floor for them to work on. The building was not heated but the warm floor made up for it.
