I hate to say it but the winter storage season will soon be upon us. I have arranged a group purchase of Car Bag's Car Jacket and Moto Jacket for motor cycles. I need a minimum order of ten bags to get a 10% discount. If we have 20 orders for bags before the order is placed, the discount will be 15% on everything. The discount is off their website prices and includes the 10# aluminum cylinder of desiccant, which I use above the 10# that comes with the bag and highly recommend.

A quick search of the site will reveal the storage method that I have used on CJ's cars each winter since they were new. I'm a real believer in this method. Mike K. used a number of bags to store Prowlers in unheated/un-air conditioned warehouses before his garage was completed to protect them against damage from the humidity in Houston so they are for more than just the northern climates.

The company's website to determine which product is correct for your application is: http://209.35.116.13/

The offer is open for bags and cylinders for an make, model of car, truck or motorcycle. Prowler uses bag #M2 which is $249 reduced to $225 or $212, if we get enough orders. The extra 10# aluminum cylinder is $50 reduced to $45. These prices do not including shipping. The car bags typically weight 22# and one cylinder 11#. You can calculate shipping via US Priority Mail on the US Post Office website based upon these weights from Zip Code 48306, http://ircalc.usps.gov/

What makes this possible is that I can avoid sales tax and the first shipping by picking the product up. We only pay for shipping to you.

I will hold this offer open until October 1st. Orders will be shipped within 10 days of order placement. I will accept PayPal at: boblongstreth@comcast.net or personal check to:

Bob Longstreth
29 Cross Creek Blvd.
Rochester Hills, MI 48306

If you're interested, please send me a PM or email to: boblongstreth@comcast.net with the make, model and year of your vehicle and if you want the optional 10# aluminum cylinder along with your shipping address plus if you intend to pay by check or PayPal. Payment will be requested when the order is placed so all that I need at this point is who would like to save on their storage products this year.

Order list:

CJ M2 bag & 10# cylinder

Here is the process we follow:

I live in Michigan and this is how I store my cats. I'm not lucky enough to own a heated garage!

From one of my previous posts: Here is the link to the company that sells the CarJacket and the dessicant tubes:

http://www.carbag.com/

We chose this type of bag because it is our understanding that the fan-inflated bubbles circulate available air that has high relative humidity. Those bags are generally clear and allow any ultra-violet light to penetrate. Our research indicates that the translucent CarJacket, along with the 20lbs. of dessicant (the bag comes with 10 lbs.) is the optimal solution. The darkness and inert atmosphere in the bag work especially well. We find that the 20lbs. from the beginning of Fall storage weighs 30 lbs. when we "let the cat out of the bag" in the Spring! That means approximately 1 1/2 gallons of water was removed from the controlled atmosphere!

The dessicant can be re-used by drying it in the oven just before re-use. It comes with instructions on how to do that.

Of course, this is a matter of choice and this is just our opinion based on our extensive research.

This will be the seventh winter for our CarJackets and my cats are just as good as new. I know that other people store their cats for the winter without any of these bags and say they have not had any problems. We prefer to not take any chances, but then we store it in our daily garage!!

In addition, following is the link for the Battery Tenders that we purchased. There are many different kinds, being sold everywhere, but this is the best deal we found anywhere! They are usually sold retail for approx. $59.95. As you wil; see when you click on the link that they sell theirs for $33.95. It is the one with the Order #01991.

http://www.accwhse.com/batteryt.htm

Here is the procedure we follow every year:

We fill the cat with gas, adding fuel stabilizer at the gas station - drive the cat back to ensure the stabilizer reaches throughout the fuel system. Full tank of gas minimizes the amount of air in the tank, minimizing oxidation of the fuel.

We use battery tenders because they monitor battery voltage, only charging to maintain a full charge, never overcharging. Battery Tender just released a permanent bleed for the battery and with a cap to protect the connector. Also change the oil and filter before storing it. Air the tires to the maximum pressure on the sidewall, making sure to remember to lower them to the recommended levels in the Spring.

In our climate, cold winter, high humidity, stored in a garage that is used daily, we elect to bag the car. There are many types of bags. The best solution is a black plastic bag and large quantities of dessicant in the bag to remove all moisture within the inert atmosphere. When the car is removed, it is absolutely as clean as the day it was put away with the engine starting faster than I would care to have.

We thoroughly cleaned the cat, making sure it is completely dry before putting it in the bag. Also making sure that it is waxed and detailed. We cover it with its normal car cover before putting in the bag. It is a type of bag that zips on three sides. You drive the car onto the bag carefully. Distribute the dessicant tubes under the hood, in the trunk, in the interior and in the bag. We used 20 lbs. and extracted 1 to 1 1/2 gallons of water. Then we put on the normal cover so that the bag doesn't scratch the car if it blows around at all. We put on the battery tender and zipped up the bag. When we took it out this Spring, it was as clean and beautiful as the day we put it in. We have no problems with flat spots on tires.

Everyone has their own methods and opinions and this is just ours. We have had excellent results and are very happy with the car bags and the battery tenders.

I too used a Car Jacket type product with my '73 Bloomington Gold Corvette ... At the time it was in an unheated garage space that would frequently have the overhead door opened. The product does great at protecting the vehicle from dampness, dust, etc ... If you do not have a climate controlled garage with an epoxy floor covering to prevent moisture from seeping in, then these are a great value and Bob's offer to help club members get a discount is very commendable. Two Thumbs Up.

Last call here. I'll contact those that have expressed an interest and see if I can get the same deal without meeting the supplier's minimum requirement. They may not. Regardless, I'll keep everyone informed.

I'm going to need a couple regardless of the price. Just thought that maybe we could all save some money. No sense keeping this open if it isn't going to fly.

Can you open and close the bag back up multiple times and have it still work or can you add new dessicant? If I want to work on the car periodically, can it be reused?

I can answer part of this Paul. You should never need new
dessicant, the dessicant should be stored in a sealed plastic bag when not in use and is baked in an oven at a low tempeture to remove the mositure before or between uses.

The bags are reusable year after year. One has been through seven winters and looks new. We're using all of the original desiccant with no change in its performance.

It's weighted before placing it in the bag and after removal in the spring. My 20# absorbs 10# of water plus or minus a couple of ounces each cycle. If you open the bag, I'd suggest redrying the desiccant before closing the bag.

The directions call for baking the desiccant in the oven at 400 degrees for two hours. Then set it out on cooling racks covering it immediately with aluminum foil using gloves. It starts reabsorbing moisture at 375 degrees.

By the way, has a price been determined for the bags yet?
as soon as it's known the check will be in the mail.
Thanks Tom

Good thing that I checked this tonight. I ordered everything today and will pick it up tomorrow. I'll drop Walt's and Pam & Tom's items at the house on Thursday on the way to Cincinnati to save shipping. I'll bring Ed Monahan's along to Cincinnati for the same reason.

The balance of orders will ship Monday. I'll advise everyone via email or PM what their totals are once I have the shipping charges.

Sorry, but that's it for this year. Thanks to everyone that participated and made the purchase possible.

Just checked into shipping options. The best alternative because of the weights involved is FedEx Ground Home Delivery. The savings is $5.00 over US Parcel Post on a bag and the delivery time is better.

I'll calculate everything on Monday and advise those that ordered of the final cost.

Just purchased my first Prowler and have been looking at the web and was reading about your group bag purchase and realize I'm a little late to order one but if there is an extra I need to get one.
