Hi everyone…
I’ve begun my first mod on the new girl and I was quickly reminded how much work it takes to convert the OEM speaker box into something special… I am lucky that I did this already in 2016 on my Gold Kat so having the prior experience is super helpful….
Doesn’t look like much yet but I thought I’d share as I go along….

Hey Dale….
The speaker housings/rings are made of high grade marine plastic. I did my last rings out of standard MDF board and did not want to tackle that again so I searched and searched and came across a guy on Etsy that just happened to make speaker rings for boats using a 3D printer… I emailed him and asked if he would make me some custom rings and he was happy to help me… I emailed the specs I needed and he came through to exactly what I needed… His name is David Derhammer on Etsy if you do a search. The plastic itself is perfect for speakers… Not to hard to be brittle…. I say it’s a medium density that accepts screws perfectly yet very strong…. The speaker ring base is made from regular MDF board which is standard for speaker boxes.
Side note…. If you look at the speaker box it’s at an angle so the sub needs to be angled on the back side so it sits level on top. 20 degree angle worked out perfectly….

Looking good Rich, it's not like we thought it wouldn't. We know you do excellent work, if you had more time you could make a nice business out of your mods.

Another update…Sorry if I’m boring everyone… If you ever done any body work, you’re never sure how well you’ve done till the 1st coat of primer…. Well, I missed on several areas so more putty and more sanding ( One must get it perfect as it is for a Prowler)… That said, and on my 1st box, I was never happy with the ends as the carpet is molded to the exact trim so I just left it be and although hard to notice, I knew it needed something…. Fix came to me yesterday… Just use the OEM carpet cover and cut it to fit the box and you end up with an OEM perfect fit…. Sometimes the answer is the simplest idea…
OEM carpet cover ends!!!

Still working the speaker box and it’s very close to completion… That said, and as part of the stereo upgrade is the re-modification of the OEM radio bezel to fit a new flat screen radio. Working with the actual OEM bezel, like the speaker box ensures a perfect factory fit and look….
Bezel is done….

The vent is polished billet Aluminum from Speedway Motors…
There are countless custom vents on the market, this 1 was exactly what I was looking for…. Purchased the vent 1st so I could build the bezel around it to size.
