I'd like to properly introduce myself to the POA. I'm not entirely a newbie and many of you have spoken to me and know me as GETRAMD on this forum. The username is the license plate I have had on my Dodge Ram trucks throughout the years, but at the request of my wife, she had asked that I change it to something a little less low key. She doesn't want to go to a Prowler meet and have us known by that name. I couldn't argue with that reasoning.

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA. I now reside north of Dayton, Ohio, but the God's Country of Pennsylvania will always be my home. Hence, the new username.

A little over a month ago, I bought my dream car off of POA member Jeff Williams from Louisville, Kentucky.

1999 Prowler - Prowler Red w/trailer and Gaffoglio Family hard top.

Many accessories & also included a 2nd set of Prowler wheels with center caps and new run flats. A little under 23,000 miles. I may sell the 2nd set of wheels, as I don't really ever intend to put the run flats back on.

Now it's time to customize her the way I want to make it unique to me. I've already done a ton of reading and met some very cool people on this site.

I am still left with a ton of questions that I hope to get steered in the right direction by the vast amount of knowledge on these boards.

Glad to be a part of one cool fraternity!

I also share a love for other Mopar's. If I'm being honest, this is my wife's toy. It is a ton of fun, too. Especially in the Smokies!

So, here are some of the main questions still running through my mind. The car only has 23,000 miles on it. It has sat in a heated garage and is pretty immaculate.

I drove it home from Louisville and it ran like a champ. I do have some slight hesitation at start up, so I'm thinking I need to by the Tom Mill's fuel pump kit right off the bat.

I have all the maintenance records. It appears the ball joint recall (and any other recall for that matter) has not been done on this car. Do the recall's still apply after all these years, or am I on my own? Do I just call a dealership with my VIN to find out?

How about the timing belt, spark plugs, coils, etc? This car shows no sign of dry rot on any of the rubber or anything, but is it a good idea to change these things with only 23,000 miles?

I've got some good leads to some Prowler (Viper)Certified mechanics thanks to some members here. I don't want to trust this car to just anyone.

Any advice would be great!

Thanks!

The recalls still apply.I recently did a complete going over including timing belt, water, all filters, brake flush and every other fluid in the car. I also did the technical service bulletin regarding the valve train chatter. Replacing everything wasn't cheap but good Prowler mechanics are getting hard to find. PM me if you want more information. Good Luck! P.S. I bought the last steering wheel that Buddy made in 2015. I spoke with him last week regarding making one more batch, as I have had several inquiries about the steering wheel. He told me that he will not be making anymore. He said too many problems with the EPA, etc.

I was born and raised in Pittsburgh too (Bellevue). Been in Atlanta area for 30 years. Hope you get everything up to par on the Prowler, to make it reliable for putting many miles on it. That is my plan.

met Jeff a few times and tried to get him to bring his car out more..... He said he was too busy. Been a few years since I have seen the car but it still looks great!

Some here have changed screen names no big deal

Hope you enjoy the car

Get a mirror or if the front wheels are really clean you might be able to read the part number on the ball joint and see if it has an X at the end of the numbers

Recall should be in effect if not done but they might not be able to get the parts.... Rare parts has made replacement lower ball joints , even though my car had the recall plan on getting the rare parts for back up

Are you sure you really want to modify it?

LOL

Do a web search "Chrysler Recalls" all you need to do is enter your VIN and it will show all the outstanding recalls on your Prowler.

The dealership will check your VIN. If the recall was done, there are NO ball joints in stock. If the recall was NOT done, they MAY be able to get them for you. I would do it sooner rather than later.
If you put the front lens on the rear bumper you no longer have a reflector on the rear, just FYI.

"I change it to something a little less low key." Your listening skills are right on par with mine. She said MORE low key, not less. Sandy knows I never listen, also. lol

your car looks great, by the way. I like the grill.

To help with the starting, turn the key to ON but not all the way to start to let the fuel pump build up some pressure. The 99s seemed to be the worst, in my opinion, for the start/fuel pump problem. I had two 99s.

I'll totally disagree with 401KAT.
Not on a Prowler. That is why there is a reflector ring around the back-up lite. Other cars that have solid white back-up lite will have reflectors built into the brake lite.

This was discussed back in 2015 http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/023148.html

We can agree to disagree but I went in shop last nite and the taillight does have reflection in it when hit with light ... maybe not to satisfy everyone... jim

Welcome again.
It is nice to reintroduce yourself so folks will have a frame of reference regarding your prior screen name.
Yes, your wife does have a point. I can imagine things that might be thought or said by others after an evening of socializing.
At one point about a year after joined POA, I had considered changing my user name to match what I had begun using on other car sites I frequent but decided to leave things as they were.
I too was born in Western Pennsylvania, (Greensburg) but moved to Maryland back in 1960. I didn't have much choice though because i was kind of young at the time.

Well, after all my reading, and with being a pretty quick study, that would have you being born WAAAY after Ed, so that should make you feel pretty good. Right?

Well, that now is going to be a reality! I haven't seen many red Prowlers with the Viper Side Panels. It will be nice to be a little unique. Can't wait to get them!
