Happy Holidays everyone!

Does anyone know what might be the cause of bouncing guages? I started the car and the oil pressure and gas needles bounced from low to high and when I drove the car, the speedo and temp guages also bounced. I also noticed that the digital display (odomoter) flashed between the number 0, 8416 (the mileage) and then the full display of mileage, the word Autostick and the gears

Any ideas? I have no idea what I would search. Thanks in advance!

Not knowing the system it sounds like a bad connection or a bad ground.

Taking the Purple in to the dealer after the holidays to get scanned, I think I have narrowed the 2 1999's down to bad BCMs

Thanks, I sent an email to B&G Performance to see if they can shed some light on it

I have not tried that. Will that affect anything else if I give that a try?

I appreciate it robin and did see that. It didn't sound like it was the same issue though, not working versus bouncing gauges. I will definitely take a look when I can though, just in case. Thanks!

Took off all grounds, cleaned and replaced. Unplugged all connectors, fuses and relays, cleaned and replaced. Replaced battery, replaced instrument cluster from a working car, still no response.
Display readings change most of the time each time I turn on the ignition, but not readable. Only two things left are the BCM or the ignition switch.

Car runs fine, no readouts on cluster, no guages except for tach and volts, and the airbag light is on.

I don't know if your gauges bounce(d), but the only gauges that still work properly on mine is the same as you describe, the tach and volt meter. Thanks for your input

My purple began intermittent but progressively got worse. Never had the bounce issue like your video, but the display looked the same but static, and only changed when I turned on and off the key. At first it sometime came back on as normal after 15 minutes, but now it doesn’t work at all.
The 1999 yellow is doing the same thing but with no warning. The 2001 is not giving me any issues.

Just a thought here, but did you check the capacitors on the back of the instrument cluster? A bad capacitor's values will change causing all kinds of issues.

Look for the top of the can to be bulged and/or leaking brownish goo. Typically they leak out of the top where a pressure relief has been stamped into the aluminum, but sometimes they can also leak out the bottom, but in my experience that is rare.

I'm sure a lot of the problems these repair shops find are done by a visual inspection under magnification plus they know what they are looking for.

worth a try..

What you are seeing is the instrument cluster self test.

l page 8J-2 states 'Initiate cluster test by depressing the trip reset button WHILE turning the key to the RUN/START position.'

Thanks again everyone, interesting enough, after driving the car for about 5 minutes last night, the bouncing stopped. Haven't started it again today though to see if it persists, will do that this evening when I get home. So weird..

The bouncing has continued, so pulled the dash apart and found what appears to be a little corrosion on what I believe is a mosfet / voltage regulator. Prior to cleaning off the corrosion, the self-test didn't work (key to run/start, while pressing odometer/trip rest). After cleaning it, the self-test now works, but gauges are still bouncing.

I think this little sucker may be the cause. Any thoughts on whether it is and any ideas on what kind of company would be best to repair the circuit board? Pictures below

Since I have not had any luck finding someone who can repair the circuit board. Does anyone know if the circuit boards were changed at some point or should the '2001/2002 version' work in my 99? Part Number: 05010273AC

Prowler store wants over $1,300 for a refurbished 99/2000 and only $300 for a 'brand new' original 01/02 which suggests there is a difference?

Seem to be having the same issue with my 2000. Did you ever get this resolved?
