So I want to start a new fun music thread. Bear with me on the description. Let's go back to high school, back to a time when you were crushing on the hot cheerleader or maybe your first love. Now , what song was on the radio back then that will automatically take you back there when you hear it today? You know the song....the one that made you think of her, or had some phrase that described her , or describes your break up, maybe she's with the wrong guy..... I think will be interesting....maybe a new playlist!! Or good songs to add to mine! Add a link to the song .....post up a pic of your crush or hottie! Could be fun reminiscing ,and a fun thread!! I've got tons of songs that I associate with different events....Some sad, some happy, and some simply make me reflect back and think about the deeper meaning of the lyrics... How about "Puff The Magic Dragon"? It was a very popular folk song made famous by Peter, Paul and Mary.... Who doesn’t remember and love this wonderful folk song performed by the trio Peter, Paul and Mary? Many thought was written for children....It wasn't...It was about becoming an adult and having a different view of the world.
The song is about the carefree happiness of a child that is lost when children become adults and have to deal with being "all grown up".....And Puff no longer comes to play....
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain,

"Remember When" by Alan Jackson.....My wife and I met in high school and were married a month after graduation in 1965.... We had been married almost 37 wonderful years when I lost her to cancer... March 30th of this year will mark the 15th anniversary of her passing. The lyrics of this song takes me back to events in our lives together... In memory of the great life we had together, when I had our tombstone made I had them inscribe it with this simple phrase:

"Oh, Pretty Woman" by Roy Orbison.....In 1964 I was in high school and we were "Rockin' and Rollin" to Roy Orbison who topped the charts with "Pretty Woman" and many more.... Here's a clip made in 1987 titled "Roy Orbison, A Black and White Night".... You may recognize some of the "back-up" singers that Roy influenced such as: Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello, James Burton, Glen D. Hardin, Tom Waits, kd Lang, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt, JD Souther, T Bone Burnett, Steven Soles, and Jennifer Warnes
BTW....Bruce Springsteen helped induct Roy into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and he talked about people that he wanted to imitate in his own performances.......In it, he said "I wanted to sing like Roy Orbison"....(pause)....."Now everybody knows"....(pause)..."NOBODY sings like Roy Orbison" Watch:

"O What a Thrill" by the Mavericks..... Here's a group that had some success about 20+ years ago but never became nearly as popular as they should have. They're a great band IMO... They are still performing and still sound great but just never got the promotion that they needed to become super-stars in C&W music.

Did you ever wonder where the band got their name? REO Speedwagon was the name of an early 1900s flatbed truck, put out by the REO Motor Vehicle Company. The company was named after its founder, Ransom Eli Olds. After Ransom Olds sold his Oldsmobile Company in 1904, he couldn’t legally use his name again for a second company, and opted for his initials instead: R.E.O. Because they were fast and able to carry equipment, many fire departments found the REO Speedwagon especially useful as fire trucks and adapted them as such. The name of this antique truck sounded cool to the band, and so they adopted it and decided to “take it on the run, baby.” This message has been edited by bjprowler on 02-11-2017 at 12:09 AM |

'I'm a believer' takes me further back, when I was 6 or 7 watching the Monkeys on tv. That song actually reminds me of the smell of crayons. I must have colored a lot while laying on the floor watching them. |
