quote from article:

"The Crossfire sold pretty briskly — at just under $40 grand a pop — in 2003 and 2004, peaking in its first year at around 36,000 units, but sales fell off so sharply that by 2006, you could get one on Overstock.com for less than an espresso machine. And that's only partly a joke — they were offered on the big O for $8,900 off MSRP."

I could not get into one physically. It was claustrophobic inside. I liked the looks of them but it wouldn't have worked out at all.

Anything can be done the question is if it's worth it. 330hp crossfire swap in a prowler nope. A Hemi can be done since the prowler computer and the early Hemi ones can talk to each other. But it's still not perfect

But here's proof of the crazy things people do but in each case it's takes someone bold enough to roll the dice . We may say why but this guy had passion too.
I share different engine swaps on the www.facebook.com/Hemiprowler site on creative things people have done. He goes today's

I went to a car show a few weeks ago and saw this. This v8 is actually 2 Chevy cavalier motors. The one up front (front wheel drive) and then he put another one in the truck. Yes he can turn on 2 different motors and they are independent. Crazy!

THE CROSSFIRE IS A MERCEDES SLK (FIRST EDITION) AS FAR AS O KNOW. SO FRAME, ELETRONIC, ENGINE AND DRIVE TRAIN ARE FROM MERCEDES.

I drove one (company lease car) for a few months. I liked the exterior look but eventually hated the car. I didn't like the way the engine shifted. For me,it had terrible blind spots. Didn't like the placement of the cup holder. It was right at my elbow and knock over a drink twice on the the passenger seat. I got hit twice in it in a month. One of those times a woman backed out of a parking spot as I was passing by. She was driving a Durango and said she couldn't see the car. Told Bob I didn't want to drive it anymore so traded it in for a Jeep Wrangler.

A few crossfire owners got smart and put a Hemi in it! I like this one!

Not a crazy idea at all !!! . ( I've had worse )

Is the engine available with manual transmission ? That would be the computer to use. Security would be the next issue.

In Prowler - Hemi conversions the "hemi" computer does NOT talk to the prowler system. One of the challenges is to make the Hemi run without all the other systems that are in the "donor" vehicle.

I for one was rooting for it to be a simple swap out. I'm very happy with my 97' and the little more than 200 hp she has, but the thought of adding over 100 hp for under 5K is nice if my engine ever failed.

Interesting thread...got me thinking (or as close to that as I ever get).

By now, doesn't Chrysler have some V-6 variant that IS a "plug and play" swap, with a meaningful HP increase? It seems like they're getting a lot of power out of the newer V-6's.

Hypothetically, if one had a Prowler with a blown engine, are there no newer motors to swap to pick up a bit more HP? Maybe not worth tearing out a working engine for 70 HP, but if you've got to replace it anyway, I wouldn't sneeze at that kind of power boost.

Anybody know?

Most newer normally aspirated V6 engines that put out HP in the 300 range have direct fuel injection. I'm sure there is more to it than that but it was what gave them that bump into the 300 HP range.

I figured the newer 6's packed a decent horsepower increase.

So, question is, is any V-6 "crate motor" in the Mopar catalogue that is "plug and play" for the Prowler, or does it still result in all of the same engine/tranny communication issues as a V-8 transplant?

I don't know for sure but I would say no. You would be money ahead to wake up the Prowler V6 instead of trying to install another one and go through all the pains just like the V8 HEMI conversion. No matter which way you go it will take all your $$.

We have an 05 SRT-6 Roadster. 0 to 100 to 0 in 17 seconds. Quarter mile time is right at 13 flat. I surprised Angie with this car a little over a year ago and She LOVES it. Only 928 were imported to USA and I looked for months before I found this one almost new with 24,000 miles it. Not as much fun as the Prowler, but the people we meet makes it worth it.
Now, it has 40,000 miles and only problem was the supercharger intercooler failed, but Dallas Dodge's Viper/Prowler technician is also trained on the Crossfire. I bought an extended warranty from Chrysler, just in case, so we are covered to 100,000 miles.. bumper to bumper.
CJ, as with you, a small suv hit her in the parking lot.The driver did not see Angie so a low speed hit in the drivers door and quarter panel cost almost 7K. Parts for the SRT are not easy to find.
The SRT-6 only comes with an automatic and were made in 2005 and about 6 were 2006 models. We find the XFire people ALMOST as passionate about their cars as Prowler people. We are blessed to have both. I will post a picture of of the pair tomorrow.
