I received this E Mail today, Tom bought a set of Viper Side Panels from me. I have called his home, but no answer, I left a message with his phone.
Has anyone else received this E Mail ?

Hello,

I am sorry for reaching you rather too late due to the situation of things right now.My family and I had a trip visiting Kharkov Ukraine,everything was going on fine until last night when we got attacked by some unknown gunmen. All our money,phones and credit cards was stolen away including some valuable items, It was a terrible experience but the good thing is that they didn't hurt anyone or made away with our passports.

We have reported the incident to the local authorities and the consulate but their response was too casual, we were ask to come back in 2 weeks time for investigations to be made proper,But the truth is we can't wait till then as we have just got our return flight booked and is leaving in few hours from now but presently having problems sorting out our bills here and also getting a cab down to the airport,Right now we're financially strapped due to the unexpected robbery attack, Wondering if you can help us with a quick loan to sort out our bills and get back home.All we need is (2,850 USD), I promise to refund you in full as soon as I return hopefully tomorrow or next. write back now to let me know what you can do.

I got it also. I sent $3000 in case there were some unforeseen expenses or they just wanted a Diet Dr. Pepper at the airport.
I don't think it was scam since the grammar was excellent. lol

Sounds like a scam to me. They probably had their email account hacked and someone is sending this out to contacts in their address book etc hoping for a payday.

I received the same email. He is also an SSR Fanatic forum member. He has bought SSR parts from me in the past, but I have never actually met him. Just doesn't sound like something Tom would send........I was thinking his email got hacked?????!!!!! He is a member on this forum. I don't know his forum name. He lives in Southern CA and has an Orange Prowler.

I have seen several variations of this over the years.

Btw-
I have personally spent some time in Kharkov.
Rural Ukraine city with lots of history.
Getting there on the antiquated rail system was "interesting" ! LOL

This is as old as they get for scams.
But unfortunately they do prey on the elderly and the kind of heart. So every once in a while they do succeed.
You can always look at the web site hoax busters and find out all the current scams. Be careful out there. rob

I received this email too. Tom and I had corresponded a few times by email. I have seen this same scam a few other times. Tom got hacked and everyone in his address book probably got this note.

This is a scam!! I had someone run this same simular line on me a few months back. a person in England using a friend of mines name tried to get me to send money to him saying he was robbed of money credit cards, airline tickets, ect and would I wire him $2500 so he could get back home. After exchange a couple of emails, in which I asked personal questions only my friend would know, it was definately a scam, causing my friend to change all his computer info. It was a nightmare for him. He has never been to England....

In the event a virus gets into my computer and tries sending e-mails to my contacts, I have simply added a couple extra figures to all of the e-mail address' in my contacts list. This makes them undeliverable and I sometimes get notices the e-mail did not go thru. This also notifies me there is a problem that needs attention.

When I want to send an e-mail, I simply remove the added figures then send. It is simple and seems to work well for me.

I spoke to Tom today. He wants to thank everyone for their concern.
HIS EMAIL WAS HACKED.
He is out of town, but not in any trouble.
He had trouble with his POA password, or he would have posted himself

Had the same e-mail from a friends e-mail account. He was supposedly in Ireland. Of course I sent him whatever he needed. Never know if that could ever happen to me.
