Since posting about the hitches coming up for sale I was advised by another POA member that he had put a hitch on eBay and THE PROWLER STORE bought it for $ 785. Several of us commented on that fact, why would they pay a price that high. It turns out that they were out of stock. They asked the POA member to ship it overnight, but he declined. The Prowler Store then complained to eBAy that the hitch was USED and had a scratch in it and demanded a full refund. eBay contacted the POA member and advised him he had to make a refund. Therefore the POA member was out the shipping cost and did not sell the hitch. WHY would they do that. A couple of reasons, possibly. They didn't have any and didn't want other folks buying a hitch at a reasonable price. They also can point out to potential customers that Prowler hitches have sold for as much as $ 785 on eBay so therefore their price is reasonable. The same owner then put that same hitch or another one on eBay and THE PROWLER STORE bid on it but he blocked them. They also may have needed a hitch to take the measurements. I got a second email from a diff. POA owner who stated he was approached about selling his hitch to the Prowler store. They now have hitches in stock but not MOPAR. They are copies of the OME hitches. You can come to your own conclusions. I would report them to the Interstate Commerce Commission if I had been the victim. I also would have told eBay to go screw themselves and not sent back any money. But that is just me. I don't like crooks or weasels. I found the thread but it was closed by Mike K so I am not posting a link. No sense bringing all that back up again. Folks can do what they want. I choose not to support that guy in Fla. The prices are outrageous to begin with and I don't agree with what he did with the hitch, for one. |

I just bought an Ajax trailer, I am looking for 1999 trailer hitch, cannot find one until last week parts manager of Chrysler in Idaho came in to my shop, I told him I need a Prowler trailer hitch, he told me he will look around and let me know, a week later he found one for me for $289.99 and four of the front mud guards too. I will install this week if the weather provide. Go to an authorized Chrysler part department asking them find one for you if you need Prowler parts, they might have one or two stuck in the warehouse and they will be glad to get rid of them. Computer are great! |

Chrysler has a system where dealers can locate remaining parts that are in stock at other dealers even after Mopar no longer carries them. When the last one is sold......you're SOL. I also believe that the guys in SoCal are building some new ones which is great. |

Larry Lord posted a helpful link for the harness about a week ago. I actually talked to 3 places that said they could get me the harness, each with different prices. They may have been quoting the same harness for all I know. LOL. Lowest was Go Chrysler in Golden Colorado. It was in Milwaulkee. He also said they added AB to the part number at the end. I asked them if they showed any hitch receivers by chance. He checked and came back with not made anymore and none available. (He also checked with an AB.) Ditto on the front flaps. I searched the link Larry gave, hoping against hope that they may have a hitch receiver and got a hit for $318.60. I emailed them asking if they actually had one, if so how many. They wrote back saying they didn't have any. Larry, I'll be getting that hinge protector we talked about after the Texas event. Thanks for your warning Ed. That grey hair couldn't have been on top. LOL. |

While I disagree that the tent in the hotel parking lot at the Woodward event was out of line - they paid for their room, and the hotel is responsible for the goings on within thier property, it would have been very courteous to inform the event Hostess of their plans beforehand - the "right" thing to do. The "WRONG" thing to do in this small, close-knot community is to do what they did with the hitch and a Prowler owner. Bad news sure travels faster than good news, and sticks like stink on a pig! I know a former member that bought an abundance of the "chincy pieces of crap" from that vendor - seems birds of a feather certainly DO flock together. As always and forever - buyer beware (and not Rich Ware either!) |

I need to check out the site more often... didn't know anyone was looking for hitch items. I'm sure my brother Pete - many of you remeber him - purchased some trailer hitch / wiring kits some time ago. I'll go and find out what it actually was. Even now he may still be able to help some one out.

You are absolutely correct Bruce. What a trip and Pete had a blast, for sure. The day we pulled into the Burger King in Indy with Steve Clark and Pete and Judy didn't see us so I told Sandy to call him. They were playing with their new U S phone and Sandy said, "We are here but don't see you. Where are you?" and Pete looked up and saw us and just started laughing like crazy. That is my memory of Pete, that big smile on his face, laughing and having a good time. What a great trip. Lots of great memories on that one. RIP Peter. |

I have a theory on why the PS wanted KK's hitch. I think they needed an OEM hitch to photograph for their website. Photographed it and sent it back to KK just like a walmarter returning a dress after wearing it to a party. If you look on their site you will see the "NEW" hitch page where the picture of the hitch they are selling is labelled "Factory stock Trailer Hitch Pictures". All of their pictures are factory hitches. Their wording cleverly refers to "factory" hitches. I believe there is a patent issue with people making prowler trailer hitches. If they are not substantially modified from the original, there could be some drama and this is PS's way of talking around that issue. If you are buying a PS hitch, you might want to ask for actual pictures of their reproduction hitch and if it is authorized by Chrysler, carrying the same liability coverage. Ask for the engineering data, proving that the hitch has been tested to meet Chrysler's specifications. But my experience with them is if you ask too many questions, you are ignored. If their hitch is an authorized reproduction and well made, it's not a bad price considering it comes with the ball mount insert. This message has been edited by beachcat on 05-05-2013 at 09:36 AM |
