If you ever need a windshield replaced, you might want to take a few steps to help the installer, and protect yourself from a busted up, top dash section. Pop off the top of the dash by pulling up on the outter side edges, while pushing down on the front portion up near the windshield. Pop one side loose, then the other side, and lift up and out,,,,being careful with the trip odometer reset mechanism. You could also remove the windshield wiper arms, or let the glass tech do that. Mine are removed anyway,,,but I would rather remove them if they weren't. (info courtesy of pumpkin Norm, thanks) Dash removed V V V V
^^^^^ Wiper arms and front windshield plastic cowling removed. Old glass out ^ ^ ^ ^ ^ V V V V V |

Installer, Scott, cleaning up the loose, old sealer material before installing new glass. This is the third Prowler windshield Scott has done for us,,plus our other cars. Keep in mind, our antenna connection goes into the rectangular box,,up front on the passenger side. Small fingers help to plug in the new connector. Hope this helps some of you owners..... |

Actually, it was three different Prowlers. When I was ready to sell my first Prowler, I had a new w/s installed for the next owner to start with new glass. The other two,,,just lots of fine sand blasting pits, which causes lots of glare seeing through > you see, we have abundant sunshine out here, as opposed to your gray days back there, lol. |

Steve and Jan,,,,,first of all,,,only OEM w/shields were available for the Prowler. That's a good thing. My glass guy said those w/shields either cost him $415, OR, he billed my insurance company that amount for them,,,not sure? I have $0 deductible on glass, so I didn't really pay much attention to the paperwork, other than signing that the work was completed. Hope that helps some. Some of those foreign made w/shields are poor quality of glass. This message has been edited by ALLEY CAT on 03-18-2011 at 05:09 PM |

Sandy's PT had a broken windshield within the first month and about 2 or 3 weeks later I was driving it and a small rock missed the windshield by less than an inch. It hit the top just at the rubber/plasic trim piece. I have never had to pay for a windshield. I have had maybe 5 or 6 replaced over the years. Those gravel front yards and the illegal immigrants are really quite appealing. Maybe we will move out there. lol |

there are other a/m windshilds available for prowlers, pilkington and ppg makes them.the glass on the a/m windshields is thinner than fact.glass.no matter what kind of car you have you always want to specify you want fact glass,if you dont they will most likely install a/m glass because it coste them less. ------------------ |

If I remember right,,,,the w/s was PPG(?). The last two times I've had w/s replaced,,,,installer said only OEM was available in our area anymore. This last w/s came from Tucson, as none were available in Phx area. This message has been edited by ALLEY CAT on 03-18-2011 at 07:50 PM |

that cuts down on the amount of laundry I have to do. Sandy is really lazy and I have to do all the work. lol By the way, I didn't need a new windshield when we hit the deer. I did switch it out to a tinted oversized windshield while they had it all apart. |
