after talking about the prowler forum... Dad asked me to ask anyone here if they had issues with the front steering?

as in when you're driving along and it suddenly jerks to one side... Dad says it's happening quite often now, its getting checked out today but wanted to see if anyone here had a similar problem and/or solution

thanks

Has anyone checked to see if the recalls were done? There was a ball joint recall done that could possibly affect the steering.

Does it happen when driving on a rough road or maybe when hitting expansion joints on the road? Going around a curve?

I find that the car will "track" like you describe where the highway may be somewhat 'rutted' from semi truck traffic. It's otherwise smooth, but those subtle grooves will throw the Kat off. I put on a front stabilizer (?) bar long ago, that extends between the two shock towers. It cut back on the jouncing the front end would typically do, but will still 'track' in the ruts as described above. Hope this helps some.

In layman's terms, many notice a jump when hitting a bump and it doesn't have to be a real big one. Expansion joints will do it and it's more noticeable when taking a curve. Instead of one wheel absorbing the bump, both wheels absorb it simultaneously causing the whole front end to jump. Some added the brace mentioned above. Then Larry Lord made a new stabilizer bar that allows the front suspension to react more independantly. The "Wonderbar".
The tracking mentioned above is another cause. Some roads when built were "raked" putting groves in the road for traction. Grooves can also be added over time from heavy loads. When the tires take in these grooves, it gives the car an uncomfortable track. That's not specific to these cars. Even my trailblazer catches them. But with the Prowler being so light, it may tend to track it easier.
If this isn't the case, my 2nd concern would be the ball joint. Hopefully the car is at a dealer who can run the VIN to see that all recalls were done. If not, contact a dealer who can or you can check it yourself online.

We have a tremendous amount of 18 wheeler traffic on I-75 and we wind up with ruts in the roadway on the blacktop portions. The rear tires of the Prowler are too wide to fit into the ruts and it handles horribly on I-75. Coincidently they just repaved most of I-75 through town.
The Prowler reacts much worse than most cars. Changing lanes while riding the motorcycle is like water skiing across the wake of a boat, seriously. That is how bad it became until it was repaved in the past month or so.
I would recommend Larry Lord's wonderbar, especially if it is a 99. That made a huge difference. I would also check for the recall on the ball joints.
The runflats also contribute to the jumping, they don't flex like a regular tire.

As others posted, make sure the ball joint recall was done. Any Chrysler dealer can verify this. Secondly, you must realize these cars have "very quick" steering, and third, Run flats react differently than regular tires. Larry's wonder bar made a very noticeable difference in my steering, handling, and comfort. My Kat is a 2001.

It may just be the ruts or tracking but just to be on the safe side I would encourage your dad to take it in and make sure.
