NAPA part no. is 819-4703. $32, not sure if this is a better, or just over priced, lift support. May just be as the others are saying, a generic. This message has been edited by blue4two on 10-15-2010 at 08:22 PM |

ive already been down that road, each set lasted 3 months.talked to manufacturer and all had been sitting on the shelf for a long time.after buying 3months later take off, drive to store ,get another set, reinstall x 3 times no thanks, being clobbered on the head once from the hood falling on it.to each his own. ------------------ |

"It appears they even have a lifetime warranty."
LST struts are more expensive, because they are quality made and durable in the Prowler application (more pressure and better seal). For those who have garage queens,,,or who don't drive their Prowler much,,,or hardly ever open the hood, those OEM type struts made by Arvin-Meritor (sold under many different names) may work for you, but use caution with working under the hood........

My Kat has had at least two sets of the Strong Arm brand hood support shocks along with a pair of stainless steel and the OEM supports. The Strong Arm shocks will last a few years but not much more. The LS Technologies shocks seem to be the way to go. JMO |

I have a '97 with the hood prop. My question is can I retrofit the shocks to my hood without drilling holes or making other modifications? |

LST is the only way to go. Their shocks are engineered specifically for the prowler and those we installed on our kat have performed flawlessly. Why replace junk with junk or at best somthing that simply fits the car. Hood weight, durability, lift stop point all went into the LST prowler shock design. Well worth the cost. JMHO |

for a prop rod,you will need a rod the 2 torx bolts and the plastic clip that stores it.,if still available, you will have to call a dealer. ------------------ |

quote: I know this is a very old post, BUT for those without gas shocks and have the prop rod, TOM MILLS made a kit to replace the prop rod and install the gas shocks. If you look at my car it has both, prop rod and gas shocks. Got a gas shock kit from Tom and installed shortly after getting the car, couldn't find a bit to remove the prop rod when I installed the gas shocks and never think about taking it off. Don't know if Tom has any more or will make any more, but if anyone with a prop rod car wants gas shock send Tom a message My car had the hole drilled on one side for the shock mounting ball, had to drill the other. The early cars the cowl has to be trimmed, but the later early cars (does that make since?) have the cowl trimmed but no gas shock (like my car) Mine was built late June 98 and Toms yellow was April 98 so between these dates they made the change in the cowling ( I think that is right) Tom can answer the questions better than me. Yeah got the Lst gas shocks on mine now. Had the stock ones for a couple years, started using the prop rod again if my head was under the hood after getting hit in the head with a gust of wind pushing the hood down. Old cars used springs and I never remember one of them breaking for both the hood and trunk. Seems like simple was best. I'm sure some have failed but not like the new gas powered one. Looks like two steps forward and one step back to me. |
