Here are a couple of pics of my fix for the park cable popping off and then you can't turn your key. Simple but effective. I just put a J-clip at the front edge of the housing, and ran the cable through the bolt hole. This will keep the cable from popping up and off the paw. the cable is the shift cable and yes when it comes loose, you cannot shift the trans.ive only heard of 2 cases of this.if it comes loose while driving and trans in d you will not be able to turn the key ,cause the trans must be in park.if its parked w/the trans in park,i believe you can turn the key to start it,but it wont shift when you move the shift lever.i believe the cable comes loose from excessive play in the cable. ------------------ |

The cable is a park paw cable, lets the car know it is in park. When shifted into park the cable can pop off plastic paw. Ignition key will not turn as car thinks its in gear. The clip keeps it from popping up. This is a seperate cable from shift cable. Bad design by chrysler!!!!! |

dude, your confusing, there is no such thing as a park paw cable its a shift interlock cable.there is a park brake cable which has nothing to do with turning the key.section 21 page 18 big manual. ------------------ |

Now I'm confused. Is this cable and the noted repair under the shifter? If yes, how do you get the shifter shroud box off to access the cable. Where were these photos taken on the vehicle? Location? (under, rear, inside, etc) |

As I understand it, it is under the shifter. All you need to do is remove the bezel, which just has plastic clips holding it on. Some have suggested slipping a credit card under the bezel to pop it off. |

those photos are with the bezel removed.that j clip can be gotten from almost any body shop.there is no photo of where it attaches to the shifter.if the shift interlock cable comes loose its because it needs to be adjusted.to much play and it will come loose.you can adjust the cable with the bezel off, theres a nut inside, loosen and readjust an retighten to get the slack out if you have any. ------------------ |

thank you for the correct cable name, I just knew it told the car it was in park. I did use a credit card to pop off the bezel. If there was an adjustment I did not see it. This was pretty simple to do. |
