I was at the Grand national Show in Pomona yesterday. The Foose "Hemisphere" was there which a lot of you know was an inspiration for our Prowlers. Note the similar front and rear suspension, body lines etc. This car was built around 1990 As I recall. Will post another 6-7- pics in next post

Uuhhh, I wish to be there !
Grand National Roadster Show & nice california weather, what a great weekend.
I´m sitting here in the snow ....

The foose hemisphere is a brand new limmited car that you can buy right now. Its the org. Prowler concept style from 1990, that chip foose designed. The Hemisfear came out 2006 and looks like the org. prowler concept. ( see pics)

The foose hemisphere is build at metalcrafters, la.

nice car, chip foose nor the hemisphere, had absolutly nothing to do with the prowler at all, nothing.the prowlers design was created 19 yrs ago,by chrysler.chip was suppose to make 100 of his design,so far have only seen the green one.the actual hemispere was built around 5 yrs ago,and was auctioned off at bj.

Previous post by CJ:

The story of the Prowler design is in the Prowler book called "Plymouth Prowler - Anatomy of A New American Roadster". The chapter called "Design - From Concept to Production" explains how Kevin Verduyn's design for a modern-day street rod served as the basis for the Plymouth Prowler. In a nutshell, Tom Tremont was the design chief for Chrysler Pacifica, which was a small operation of about 20 people and located in Carlsbad, CA. This group included Pacifica's design manager, Kevin Verduyn.

According to Verduyn, the idea for the Prowler originated during an "idea fair" held at Pacifica in May, 1990. In early November 1990, Chrysler's top brass from "back East" (including Tom Gale, design direct Neil Walling and Chrysler president Bob Lutz) were at Pacifica for another presentation. Lutz spied a small sketch from the idea fair that sparked his interest hanging on a wall in Verduyn's office. This drawing kicked off the model that ultimately led to the Prowler. The fifth-scale model came out almost like the sketch. Gale, whose interest in hot rods led him to design and build his own personal ground-up design conterminous with the Prowler, was "real enthusiastic" from day one" says Verduyn, "so much that the Prowler became his baby".

You can read the entire story and see the drawing with Verduyn's name on it in this book.

I wish I had that black one. Thanks for the pictures of the Hemisfear!

According to Wikipedia: * http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plymouth_Prowler

"Although he is officially uncredited, car designer Chip Foose's Chrysler sponsored senior project car at Pasadena's Art Center College of Design, which he dubbed the Hemisfear, evolved into the Plymouth Prowler.[1]"

I think the real inspriation for the prowler is a 32 Ford. That cars shape is the basis for this and many hot rod concepts. Chip's car was built well after the Prowler; I do like it and Foose designed cars in general.

Wikipedia: Accuracy disputes:

The accuracy of an article may be a cause for concern if:

If you go to Jay Lenos Garage and search Chip Foose, you will see a vidio were Foose tells Jay the the Hemisfear was the inspiration for the Prowler. I tried to link to it but no success, maybe someone else can try.

At an autograph session, Prowler owners seemed to get a little special notice and treatment (and some original on site artwork ).

Jan there is a Black one that is privately owned too ...
It is also named "The Foose Coupe" now as there was a depute with Chrysler about the engine and the name of the original car so... he pulled the engine and gave it back and he now runs a Ford motor in it

Chip actually had two at the Show for the debut. One in the Chrysler booth and the other in, I believe Hot Wheels booth. There was a line a mile long for Chip to sign one of the 1:18 scale models of the car.

I saw the original in bare metal years before it was completed at Chip's shop. MetalCrafters was offering low volume production versions.

I believe Brian Holt had a fairly in depth conversation about the issue at hand with Chip himself... I never got the details of the conversation, maybe Toohipcat can chime in or I can find out how the conversation went...
I had heard somewhere that Chip won an award while in school for the design of the hemisphere but this design became property of chrysler as part of the contest, the Prowler was supposedly developed from that... don't know how true it is, but that is what I have read....
Didn't some of the Prowler owners visit Chips shop a few years back ? Maybe they have heard Chips version of the story..

Here's a video clip of Chip Foose talking about the "Hemisfear" and how he designed it back in the early 1990's for Chrysler Corp. He later talks about finally building it, and his plans for a limited run of 50 of these cars circa 2005

Russell is correct,
The video was done before Chrysler pulled the name "Hemisphere" and the rights to use the "hemi" engine in it...
The car is now called the "Foose Coupe" and is powler by the 5.4L supercharged Ford engine....

That is a really cool car, no doubt. I think I like the rear of the Prowler better, however. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't turn down a Li'l Foose Coupe, it is really nice.

Be sure to turn up the volume. You can hear Chip say "I did a project for Chrysler which eventually became the Prowler. ..there was a roadster and also a coupe!"
