Had car to dealers twice and they can't figure the problem, Thoughts??? Set cruise to "ON". Cruise light comes on then when you set the cruise say at 60, will not take hold at times, other times it will work and just shut off going down the road, then the cruise light goes out. To get it working again need to shut off car and maybe, maybe not work... thoughts.

The following was extracted from a recall on mini vans. Could apply to the Prowler as well. It could be the clock spring is starting to fail.

"The defect involves a clockspring that supplies current to the driver's side air bag, the horn and the cruise control. If the clockspring is working properly, the air bag warning light will illuminate for a few seconds when the vehicle is started. If the air bag warning light isn't working properly, the clockspring may have failed."

Extracted from a prior post

These are pictures of a disassembled unit.

This is a complete unit, before disassembly. It is held together by tiny screws.

This is the insides. Notice the misshapen white part on the right. I believe this thin "washer" deforms, and gets bound into the tape.

This is the "tape" that we refer to as the clock spring. It is very similar to the ribbon wires found inside computers. It is about 10 feet long!
The ends are crimped to electrical connections in the plastic housing. I think a failure is caused when the "washer " deforms, and gets bound in the tape. Mine failed while making a full lock left turn. I could hear it when it let go. The tape does not break, but it pulls out of its' connection in the black plastic housing.
It was a good afternoons work, but I am now happy that everything works.

Here was another fix from a prior post for the problem similar to what you decribed.

Had the same problem last week. I found out, that my brake light was also on, when driving.
The CruiseControle-Brake Light Sensor-Box ? near the body controler >> on/the brake pedal jumped out of the mounting.
I just clicked the box in again, and everything was fine.
I tooked 5 minutes to fix it, but tooked me 5 hoursīto find out. ... -C-.
