OK OK OK!!! there are very very very few High mileage and daily driver prowler's out there so we can expect that there hood props might have been opened and closed a few time's allowing for reasonable wear & tear.
but how do U explain away the new Prowler or literally new Garage Queen that has been stored away in the archives of a climate controlled environment.

When i first got my prowler approximately two and a half years ago with 120 miles on it one of the first things the old owner told me was DO NOT PUT THE HOOD UP AND WALK AWAY FROM IT. Because the hood props were bad, and he just had them CHANGED and these were bad also.

Well for a while i would not check my oil unless i held the hood up with my head, and was almost embarrassed when trying to show off the engine compartment. Has anybody ever had to ask (Hey could you hold up my hood for me?). Until i finally starting using a collapsible hood prop.

Now if we were talking about an EXTREME use or ABUSED part but we are not, the hood props failed miserably from day one as did the replacements. i understand there have been some minor injuries and some damage at least from what i've read. But i could see some one getting Hurt. And then maybe hearing this statement ( HOW DID HE DIE!!!!) LOL LOL

These Hood props should not be like a Quart of milk that has a shelf life and then goes bad a week later let alone starting out as bad milk..

there are many hood and trunk shocks/struts that fail all the time, from what ive seen most last longer than the prowlers.

It's widely known that there are some poor parts ideas incorporated into the Prowler:

1. Weak hood support shocks
2. Crap wheel center caps
3. Poor quality chroming on the wheels
4. Clock springs [also on other DC products]
5. Second generation front shocks
6. Transmission sensors [also on other DC products]
7. Window regulators

I consider these a small part of being able to own a Prowler. I see tens of thousands of cars going through the wholesale auction ring each year, and believe me, all makes and models have their own problems to deal with. I congratulate the old Chrysler Corp. for designing and building our cats

why not install a prop rod? I know Gene in Stuart, FL put a 97 prop rod on his 2001 cat because he was sick of the struts. Prop rod never wears out and also open the hood a lot more (approx 1.5').

Toys I can't explain you experience. Our 99 has had two sets of hood shocks. The original and one replacement. During the long spring , summer and into fall here in Georgia we attend numerous car shows where the car sits all day long with the hood open. I have noticed that when the weather gets cold the shocks are weaker. Mine are now showing signs of failing again. I will probably just go to a hood prop rod form a 97 or early 99.

I have posted this before and Some People can Laugh but i went out and bought a extendable hiking pole for $9.99.
It works super and looks like it belong's with the car, it closes down to less than 18 inches and extends to 46 inches. It also came in yellow, blue, red, and black colors.

As of lately i have seen extendable car snow brushes that will do the same thing just unscrew the snowbrush.

Until there's a better solution this was me fix.

Replaced ours once and to stop the bleeding I made a hood support for car shows, checking oil, checking the battery any time I have the hood up.Bottom of page http://www.zianet.com/SLlover/page60a26.html

toys - go to a Carquest Auto Parts store and buy a quality, telescoping hood support rod. Around $25.
I don't have the # handy, but its a STL item code. Ask the counterperson for one.

I always use mine when cleaning and working under the hood, and at car shows where the hood will be open for many hours.

JP - where have you been hiding?

Autozone, Checker, NAPA, Pep Boys, etc,,,,it doesn't matter where. All of those are made by AVM [OEM] hood strut shock for Prowlers. You might get one or two replacement sets from Autozone,,,with the original receipt, but after that they will probably resist free replacements. Just my guess!

AC,
Not hiding, just haven't been cruising the site like I used to. I went and got married. Have a new puppy. I'll attach a pic of the puppy if I can. As far as "my" hood-props, I still warranty them.

Got married? Got married,,,,Got married,,,,,,,JP,,life was so good, lol. The lady you were with at Texas event?
Good choice,,,

Nice dog

Get all you can out of the that hood strut prop warranty.
Maybe later this year AVM will start making some stronger pressure struts that will last longer.

Stop back more often!!!
