There are a lot of good thoughts here, but the first thing I would like to clarify for Mike is that NOTHING IS EVER DELETED HERE! Some things get moved and a few get put into archives and others get closed, but there nothing deleted. I'm going to suggest that this may make a good poll question, any suggestions on what the questions should be? |

The POLL QUESTION should be over a long period of time, so as many members as possible would have an opportunity to see, read it, and vote. Say December 1st until January 15th. Question: 1. Would you like to see the POA CLASSIFIED forum changed to a "no reply" postings allowed forum 2. Would you like to see the POA CLASSIFIED forum left the way it currently is with "reply" postings allowed forum 3. Would you like to see the POA CLASSIFIED forum split into "TWO" separate forums - 1. FREE CLASSIFIED forum, which would be 'as it is now' and allow you to list 'free' your vehicle or other Prowler related items for sale, and open to discussion. AND, 2. CLOSED CLASSIFIED forum, which would be "closed" to any replys from other members, but would cost you a small fee to be paid to the POA website via Pay Pal.

how about leaving it up to the seller to specify replys or not and we act like adults and heed the wishes. |

In this case the basketball melee may focus on the real issue, accountability. Regardless of the topic, how about modifying the saying...."engage brain before putting fingers in motion." Please never post anything that you're not prepared to say directly to that person. |

I vote for leaving it the way it is. It may not be perfect, but I think it is best the way it is now. JMO |

Or we could simply implement a new "unwritten" law: Leave the classifieds as they are today with the understanding that if anyone posts anything unrelated, unsolicited, inappropriate, and ultimately potentially damaging to the sellers efforts (unless it's in the spirit of pointing out a "scam" or intended to protect the interests of other POA members), we all corner him or her at the next Prowler event, shave off their eyebrows and use an indelible magic marker to write "I'm a Dick" on their forehead. Although I get the feeling that there may be those who would wear that as a badge of honor This message has been edited by BuckNekkid on 11-23-2004 at 12:21 PM |

I like Alley Cats idea to two classified areas. One free with replys allowed and one that costs $'s with the reply function turned off. Might be a good way to raise money for upkeep of the site. |

Classifieds with 2 sections is a great idea...having one to support the P.O.A. and the other where you can post all the comments makes sense to me! The most controversies seem to be started in the classifieds these days...but it is still a place that the majority will visit daily! |

quote: You do not need to post a new reply to answer a question. If I was the seller, I'd just EDIT the original post. I agree with removing the "reply" option. The EDIT function would have to be retained, so the seller can use that to answer questions and also to indicate when an item has been sold. I do not use the classified section, and I will not use it unless I can turn off the replies. |

It's too bad the actions (posts) of a few people can cause such a turmoil. The classified ads are a great attribute to POA members - both buyers and sellers. The ability to communicate information openly by posting is a good thing. Unfortunately the many negative posts in the classifieds have resulted in a number of people not posting their items for sale which limits them from a potential market and prevents POA people from learning about an item for sale. It's too bad some people can not be self disciplined enough to refrain from posting USELESS negative comments. If the reply feature gets turned off, then that will prevent people with USEFUL comments (like this is a scam) from being posted. My opinion is that based on the number of negative comments, the reply feature should be turned off in the classified section and people can post any comments elsewhere or perhaps set up a classified discussion section sort of like in the Events Section. |

Hers the definition of a forum from websters .. "An Internet forum, also known as a message board or discussion board, is a web application that provides for online discussions, and is the modern descendant of the bulletin board systems and existing Usenet news systems that were widespread in the 1980s and 1990s. An Internet forum typically exists as part of a website and invites users to start topics and discuss issues with one another. "
