I just spoke with Kathy, Curtis's wife. Curtis had his first Kemo treatment last week. He has been in bed since, with swollen limbs, and other complications from the therapy. Kathy has been home all this time from work since Curtis has been sick. I have been though a family member's illness like this, belive me, it is not a easy situation. Kathy has been on family leave from her employer, with a small portion of here normal salary coming in. Curtis, who worked for a DC dealer in Stockton, was terminated after the using up his sick leave. He has no money coming in period, and has not for months now. Needless to say, (or maybe not) the financial situation is gloomy at best. I would ask again all to please keep Curtis in your thoughts. And not only Curtis, but his whole family who are going through this. I really don't know how to say this tactfully, so I will just say it. The family is under financial difficulty to say the least. They have not asked for help, but I have learned some of the situation, and I hear it their voice. I read other threads on here and I shake my head. What in life is more important than life itself? Curtis's family needs our help. They would not come and say so, but they are in NEED. I am not a organizer, nor do I want to be one. But I do have the Blockus home address if anyone was to email me for it, not on here please. And this is no bandstand either. anyone who know's or have met Curtis and Kathy know what kind of people they are, how they have helped, and enjoyed the POA members in the past. And yes, Curtis and Kathy are friends of mine. So is the other thread subject person, who I have helped in the past, and would in the future. But I have to tell you, ,,, no, never mind. I think it best left unsaid. At the least please keep this family in your thoughts. Thanks, JD |

I called my mom after reading the post from John. To be honest with all of you, my dad's friends, I am really scared. I think that maybe it's just the chemo his body is reacting to but for the past 3 days when I try to call and talk to him he is always sleeping. Everyone I talk to who has been through a similar experience with a family member or friend all tell me the same thing. A lot of the battle is staying positive on life. I think this is what will help my dad. He is struggling with a lot of issues, one yes one is the fact that he may have to sell his car. By all means he really doesn't want to. Sometimes I think that car is the only car he has truly loved. He has had many, many, many cars in his life but the prowler, it's different some how. He beams when he talks about the latest "mod" he's bought or the new gears he installed. He told me that he is waiting for the day he can get back in and drive. He and I both share a passion for cars and I want nothing more than for him to step out into that garage, hop in the driver's seat and punch the gas. But I digress. What I was saying is that even if you would like to send him a card, a note, a little something to help him smile throughout the day, I know he would be more than appreciative, and for those of you who are fortunate to maybe make some sort of contribution, I know he would never ask for it but he would be forever thankful, and I may be bias being his baby daughter and all but you could never ask for a more caring, giving, true friend than my father. Thanks for reading my ramblings. I know he reads these posts as often as he can stand to sit in front of the computer, even if he hasn't the energy to respond, he knows you are all here. |

hang in there, Curtis. My sister had breast cancer two years ago. The first year was really bad and she was down in the dumps. They built a very nice new home just before she found out about the cancer. She decided she did not like the new house because there were so many memories of great parties in the old house. I told her to throw a few parties. They have had some parties and she is back to her old self. It took quite awhile to get back to normal, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Think about that first Prowler drive. Think about a big Prowler get-together. Hang tough, we like having you around the POA posting. |
