Oklahoma City based SONIC Drive-In’s are about to open a new concept dine-in restaurant in our “Bricktown” entertainment district. I got a sneak peak today. The building has a garage theme with hub caps and car pictures on the walls.

The main wall features 6 large car pictures…including a PROWLER! The plaque by the PROWLER picture talks about the retro look of the car which ties into the theme of the restaurant. You can even see the picture thru the garage door from outside (in top photo).

The SONIC corp. construction manager said the local FORD dealer will be displaying the first ’05 Mustang they get inside the dining room. I volunteered my PROWLER for display and he sounded really interested. This store is adjacent to SONIC’s national headquarter’s building they just built last year along the Bricktown canal.

It’s nice to see that a major restaurant chain recognizes the PROWLER as the great car that it is!!!! I told him that I would post these pictures and he will be watching the responses, so let them know how much we appreciate it!

I like it! We need more like it! Great idea! If they rotate the pics, I would like to be the first to formally request the one of the Prowler. (I can be reached by email at the link above this post.)

There is a SONIC less than a mile up the street from our house [on Coliseum Blvd, Montgomery, AL]--unfortunately they are clueless--no offense to any Sonic mgmt reading this, but I don't believe they've ever seen a Prowler--ever! BTW, there is ZERO inside seating. It is 100% outside service. On the plus side, they offer the absolute BEST Chocolate MALT I have had at any restaurant in my life and I stop by OFTEN for a large choc malt~mmmmmmmmmm!

The owner of the local Sonic Drive-In in our hometown in MS purchased a "yellow" Prowler in 2000....apparently has great taste in cars & got the "best" color too!!

Ty, Try one of their limeaids also. They are great. I like their foot-long chilidogs with cheese and onions too. Good onion rings also.

We have two Sonic's and every Sat we try to go to one of them. We usually have a good turn out. Yes, they like pumpkin.

Sonic's Super Jalepeno Cheeseburger is the Besst!!

During the "Adult/Spirited Driving Cruise" at the Prowlin' the Rockies event in 2002 we stopped at a Sonic in a small Colorado town with a dozen Prolwers and attracted all sorts of attention there.

If it wouldn't be a huge inconvenience, could you ask them where they acquired that set of pictures? I'd be interested in the whole set. Somebody somewhere knows where those pictures were purchased - if you don't have time, email me the phone number of the guy you talked with and the exact location of the Sonic in the pictures and I'll try to find out where they got 'em.

I want 'em. Bad.

The Sonics in this area sponsor cruise ins.

Different nights in different towns.

They work closely with the diferent chapters of Good Guys.

Here in the Denver Metro area all of the Sonic's have Friday or Saturday night "Cruise Ins". It is really fun to try to fill up one whole side with "KATS" .

Help me Texas owners,

I'm thinking that a Prowler owner, I think was Debbie (not sure of screen name) and worked for UPS had her Yellow Prowler in a Sonic advertisment a few years back

I remember a photo shoot and pictures posted, so someone at Sonics likes the Cats

We have several Sonics in Indianapolis. They bought out Dog N Suds. The ones I have been to are all newer places with small inside dining, some patio seating and drive up.

watch out for the brain freeze with the fresh fruit freezes

Thanks for all the feedback!

Ty-K...keep your hopes up. Sonic have all been drive-in's in the past. This is a new concept they are trying out. The 3rd one in the country. There are 2 in Arizona and the one in OKC is due to open Oct. 1st. There will be a hot line phone at each table so you can place your order and a car hop will bring you your food at the table. Also will have patio seating with outdoor order speakers.

If anyone stops in Okc passing thru...give me a call. I work in the Bricktown area and would be happy to show you around. Lots to see and do, and adding more all the time. The folks at SONIC were lucky to get in on the building stages of it!

I'm sure they appreciate all the positive responses.

A bit of Prowler & Sonic Trivia...

The Yellow Prowler that was being photographed for a Sonic advertisement belonged to Debra L. Markwardt of Midlothian, Texas.

Why I remember this is Debbie received the very first set of SHIMMERS produced (other than the ones for the Yeller Cat)so she has the distinction of being the very first SHIMMERS Customer. There was a BIG rush to get these to her by a certain date to make the photo shoot. It was a night time photo shoot, so the SHIMMERS were very important to the event. The date, 30 November 2000.

So what about the picture... where is it... what did it look like? Until these Sonic post I had forgotten all about it, so maybe if some of the Texas Owners know Debbie maybe they could inquire about this Prowler picture.

Good luck and THANKS for the Memories.

THANKS also to Debbie for helping launch the SHIMMERS awareness and making them what they are today.

Best wishes, Jay

PS... I wish there were some Sonics in South Florida... the food, service and atmosphere are GREAT... the nearest one I know of is in Orlando.

Sonic is a great drive in, but there are none in the Chicago area, there are some in southern IL.

Come on Sonic open some drive in's in the McHenry IL area.

Jay,

I hope someone responds with the pictures, I'd like to see them...and pass them on the the guys at their headquarters.

Bob,

Most SONIC Drive-in's are franchised...and I hear they are quite profitable for the owners. If you really want one near by why don't you open your own? If I had the cash to do it, I promise you that I would! I'd probably get fat from "testing" all the products, but I'd be fat and Happy!!!
