Oh! That's awful John............I don't think you are being made the scapegoat.....you have a right to expect what you pay for and what is seen in the pictures is certainly not what you should expect. Bob would have been ballistic!!!
quote: SuperKat.......if you have only been talking to the vendor, then you are only getting one side of the story. I can't believe that anyone who paid a lot of money for the grill to be chromed and got the grill (in the photos) back would be willing to accept that as a "quality" job. Would you be happy if that had been yours? Not me!! If a business cannot provide quality work........they are going to lose all their customers. Why should anyone accept inferior work just so the vendor "will make them for all the other potential customers"? I wouldn't accept a job like that if it was mine and my money! |

I have been collecting parts to send to the vendor and have talked about those primarily. Yes I am very disappointed and frustrated that I cannot send this stuff to Advanced. No, I did not intend to infer that John is the scapegoat; the grill is not acceptable. The issues for Advanced seem to be their desire to achieve acceptable results on a very difficult part, meet the customer's schedule expectations and the shear number of parts sent for plating. I have been hoping to get a grill chromed for some time, I have been ripped off on a previous purchase, and so when it looks like it might finally happen and does not, I am disappointed. That's all, just frustrated and probably not something I need to express here, Sorry. This message has been edited by SuperKat on 07-22-2004 at 06:07 AM |

Thank you all for offering to send your grills to me. I have purchased one myself and it is on it's way to me. I did this just in case something where to not work out, I am not holding up anyone's grill. I know I can chrome a grill that everyone will be happy with, it's just the price that that I am concerned with. My chrome vendor has raised the price on me because I now want the underside of the fins plated the same as the top side. That decision raised my cost $150.00. Stay tuned for more info........... |

After seeing those photos ... Custom Coatings in Florida wasn't SO bad after all!! My grill looks nothing like that, and although it DID take like 4 weeks, I am VERY pleased and it didn't cost an arm and a leg either. They DID paint the underside for me upon request so the "reflection" isn't "awful" as many have stated in theirs. Hope Norb comes through for the rest of you, as I really like the chrome grill on the majority of the KAt colors, but at what cost now will be interesting to see ... a side note; mine is NOT a car intended for just car shows ... if that were the case as with some of you, then I too would be looking for drop dead perfect results as judges would be looking closely and a point off here n there will cost you a trophy! Godd Luck all! |

That is the reflection of the gouge, that is on the underside of the top fin. |

Ray has an interesting idea about painting the underside of the fin. Might even the reflection out and be economical. That reflection seems to be the most troublesome element. |

I'll leave this alone after this. When I got my grill from the FLA people years ago, I had to paint ALL the fins underneath. I hated the look. Cost was the the same as this one was. THIS IS MY SECOND CHROME GRILL I'm sorry, but I do not want to settle for having to paint marks in the chrome that was suppose to have none. If that satisfies you all, to settle for something less that what it should be, I'm sure Tom can be talked into doing them again. I can't believe all the flack over this. Go for it |

Superkat ... mine was painted by Custom Coatungs upon my request after all this same kind of hubbub over grills that had gone to them and people weren't satisfied then. As I said earlier, he almost sent mine back untouched and not wanting to "deal with a bnch of complainers". I am quite happy with my grill as it is installed and others that have seen it find no flaws. I would NOT accept JD's grill as it was 1st time or 2nd time either ... and simply painting what I see in his pics would be totally unsatisfactory. Again, I don't know what HIS looked like from Custom Coatings, but mine is perfectly fine by me, and I am not one to "shy away from detail" either. My final 2 cents on this thread. |

Please accept my apologies, I am NOT even thinging of JD's grill or painting JD's grill; his is not acceptable and i am certainly NOT offering a solution. I was thinking that Ray had a good idea that might improve the odds of getting a good job in the future. I think he had a good idea not previously discussed and that is all I was trying to convey. |

My Custom Coatings grill is still fine after five years... I've been happy with it from day 1. I didn't know it was not polished on the under side until I took a picture to show someone who had a question concerning theirs... I referred some Vette buddies to them for getting parts chromed and all were happy. Just unfortunate they stopped chroming... And, I think I read on here sometime back where they may have changed ownership over this period of time... So, maybe Norb should offer two versions. 1) the way Custom Coatings did my grill (polished on top & chrome on bottom just not polished) looks polishe to me and no reflection problems that I'm reading about on here... 2) polished on both sides ------------------ |
