Spring has sprung! Time to polish up da'Kat, pop in the antihistamines, put the top down and take out the KoolKitty for all the kiddies to woo-woo & the general population to admire. Certainly, it's Great feel-good therapy for the owners as well. Life's nice. However, we've had our blue cat for less than a year now. Admittedly, we get somewhat concerned.. .& a tad paranoid leaving the car at the mall parking lot, street parking, etc. Leaving the car unattended especially 45 mins. or more gets agonizing. For safety's sake, we park in well-lit & watched areas. Questions for the long-time & experienced cat owners, do lookers generally look & leave your in admiration? Or do some look, then maybe scratch or vandalize the car in jealousy? Oh yea, I dread the bozo who will wham his door at the kitty's side. So for us newbies, do plug in your therapeutic , "dont'worry", do's & don'ts...i.e valet parking? Indeed, it feels awesome reading the positive insights & inputs from JD, ObiWan, Pumpkin duo, CT, RCRich, GaryC, MikeK,Laddie, CJ, EdM, Growl, Curtis, DanP, the Horvaths and all. (uh oh, I missed some names) |

IslandP- I have found that generally that onlookers look rather than touch or vandalize. Maybe handprints on the windows as they look inside if we are not there! where the as*HOLES in parking lots ,ie grocery stores,etc dont give a shatner. In groups, they leave alone only to gauck, and ALLWAYS try to park prowlers together, always more intimidating. DITTO , ON THE ANTIHISTIMINES! Happy and Safe Prowlin to Y'all ------------------ |

Not too much worries, but I'll park in tha back of the Target lot...and almost always I'll get some numbnut park right next to me out in the sticks...but no harm done. For the most part...People are too busy trying to figure out what it is to think about vandalizing, but there is the occasional horror story. NEVER take up 2 spaces when parking anywhere...that's just asking for a keying no matter what you drive. |

....I drove one particular Kat everywhere(28K miles in 18 months), sort of an experiment I guess you might call it.....drove it two winters....parked it ANYWHERE....NEVER LOCKED IT....it rarely was garaged, just sat beside my house at the curb....treated it like a used Neon.....most of the time the keys were even in the floor....it was never dinged, vandalized or bothered in any way....it was at malls for hours on end.....race track parking lots,restraunts,supermarkets, Walmarts,anywhere I could find a spot to leave it I did....I always let kids sit in it, and their parents....it was loaned out on numerous occasions for parades, car shows, it even went to senior prom with a couple of 18 year old girls in charge of it for the weekend(they brought it back full of gas and waxed)....my kids both drove it quite a bit.....sometimes I might find a nose or hand print on the glass, but rarely.....some cars like Porsches and Mercedes seem to be targets for vandalism due to jealousy....but being all American, the Prowler seemed to be very respected when unattended.....I just decided I was going to have fun with it and not worry about it at all.....

Tangled - Are you wearing shoes!?!? I notice when I'm stopped at traffic lights and look over at the next car the people nearly always act like they aren't looking, but they are... I don't leave mine sitting around too much, but the times I have been to malls or restaurants or COSTCO (Oh God I love going to COSTCO...), I've never had any problems. But it only takes one jerk to ruin everything. |

I left my 2003 Jaguar at a local sports bar for a few hours while my wife and I partied with friends. I came out and the Metal grill was ripped off! I'm afraid to take my Prowlers when i go out to Bars because people do stupid things when they drink. If its daytime i would take it to Costco and park it far away but why would i do that. When i go to Costco i take the truck  I tend to think about where i'm going before i take the prowlers! I don't take them shopping no room! I'm not about to take them to Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods Casino's with the valets driving them!!I guess what i'm trying to say is i'm very selective where i take them.------------------ |

We treat our kat like the rest of our cars. Never take them out when the weather is bad or even looks bad. A few of our cars are low and we try not to drive in an areas we know that has a lot of speed bumps and low entrances. We park away from everyone, but it seems they find their way next to your car. I like to be able to see my cars when they are parked. I hate to say this but when we are out in the kat we don't park it but rather just drive,drive, drive. By the way we have a truck for all our dirty jobs.  ------------------ More 'Pumpkin' photos . . . . . Bob.... ...NOPE, no shoes....I wear shorts and t-shirts year round, NEVER wear a coat....I go out in the snow almost daily barefooted to get the mail, return movies etc etc..... |

The biggest problem is very small kids want to see inside and try to hold the top of the door and put their feet on the running boards. Sometimes they run up the side. I have seen that happen while we were at cruise-ins, to other cats. |

Well...though I've only had mine for less then 2 months my thoughts have run along the lines of: 1) I insure the bejezzus out of it. No reason to pay that insurance unless I'm willing to accept what it provides...insurance 2) Theft thoughts: an orange Prowler is a rather "obvious" car. It's pretty noticable by the general public...and the police. Aside from dumb teenage joyriders, it seems like an illogical car to steal. It's much easier to trace down a Prowler then a black 99 Camry, no? 3) Do you have a car cover? It can help get rid of the "conspicuous" factor and really lessen people coming up to the vehicle if that's your worry. Works for my customized motorcycle, so I assume it should do the same for a kat (but the shape/silouette is still recognizable from custom fit covers as something "cool", for good or for evil) I do admit that after my recent bout with the damage done by my dealer, I think I may start parking it away from other cars in parking lots. There may be only so many times I can hit up my insurance for $3k paint jobs before they start to take notice ed |

My "Pretty Kitty" never sees a parking lot except at the local Starbucks, where I sit at a outside table to have my java and a smoke. In Texas, there are a lot of stupid rednecks. These are the ones that want to give you sh*t, and try to intimidate you with their jacked up 4X4's on your taillights. Fortunately Texas has Consealed Carry Laws. Their truck may be bigger than my Kitty, but daddy dont miss... I have a Benz and have never had a problem with it. Never came out to see a crowd gathered around it, people leaning against it taking pictures, or "knocking" on it to see if it was metal or plastic. Around the peninsula there are not to many problems. I've put 44,000 miles on mine and parked in A lot of lots. I do try to back the kat into slotts and I head for the end spots and make sure I centered in the stall. Lots of lookers but no touches. Do watch the little kids though-they will "pat" the fenders and such. I just hand them a soft cloth to wipe off the panel while explaining to the parents what A paint job costs and the value of education their children about looking but not touching. I do it with A smile and I've only had one parent give me A bad time. I just told her I needed to know who her insurance carrier was so I could turn in my claim-boy, did that shut her up! She had her child clean the fender right up and I even got sort of an apology. I do all this with much humor and it works especially at car shows and such. Don't be afraid cus the clear coat it really A very tough plastic called Glassrit-very tough stuff-but carry detailing stuff and soft wiping cloths along with A wet synthetic chemise. |

70,000 plus miles of daily driving and not one door ding from a parking lot. I drive to the grocery, Target, restaurants, Homer Depot, downtown parking garages when working, movies, ballgames, hotels when traveling, etc. I find some finger prints and smudges on the windows occasionally. Only damage came from a disgruntled worker unhappy that our company hadn't signed a new union contract and I once found a drunk sitting in the passenger seat while tailgating at a football game showing the finer points of my kat's interior to his girlfriend. At least he did not help himself to the cooler of beer sitting on the floor.  ------------------  |

For the record, I didn't say ALL, I said ALOT. From my experience, whether with my Ferrari (gone now), Prowler, Hummer, etc. The people who have acted with the most disrespect toward my vehicles have mostly been the "Trashy" sort, of which in Texas I've found to be mostly Rednecks. Well heeled folks tend to know what damaging could cost them, the not so tend to either not know or not care. I have driven to stores and restuarants and parked the Kat but ususally never more than an hour. I would never park it at the movies for example. I always park way out where no one else is or in a really wide parking space. I never take two spaces no matter how far out. That is asking for trouble. A couple times I have come out and found some jerk parked right next to me even way out. But thus far no damage from vandals or door dings. As I learned the hard way you can get more damage from road debri and the chances are geater that it will happen. On the bright side I gott a new custom paint job. If someone were to slash my top, the insurance would pay to replace it and I would have a brand new top. Sure at first I would be ticked. But later like with my paint, just try and lemonade out of lemons. |
