I own a 2000 Plymouth Prowler, and when I bought my car it was a demo with 3000km on her. Anyway they told me I would have bumper to bumper for 3 full years from that date. The date I bought the car was May 31, 2002. So 3 years makes it May 31, 2005. Well, just called dealership and their saying it ends this year. What can I do? And, if the warranty is running out, is there certain things on my car that service should look at incase it needs fixing - what breaks down the most??? Surely they won't tell me what needs doing until warranty is over. Thanks for everyone's advise.....Christina |

Christina - "it was a demo with 3000km on her. Anyway they told me Key words: "they told me" Did they say it was a brand new car without a previous owner? What does your paperwork say,,,NEW OR USED? If new, it had a MSO title and should have a full 3/36 warranty,,,,unless they listed it "in service". Do a records search where you register the car and see if it had a previous owner. This may come down to getting a lawyer to review your documents in challenging the dealership. JMO Good Luck |

I would go see the guy who sold it to you and have him put it in writing. If he will not, ask to see the owner. They will not fix something unless its busted, so don't worry about it now. Before it runs out make sure you have any problems fixed. I have owned Dozens of cars and i never had any real major problems while under warranty. I can't remember keeping only a few more then 3 years!!My prowlers will be the exception. ------------------ |

In all fairness, they might have referred to the warranty starting from the date the car was titled in 2000. I bought my car with a whole year off the warranty as it was titled the previous year by the dealer, and it only had 200 miles on it when I bougth it...As far as I am concerned, the dealer wasted a whole year off my warranty. If you want to take advantage of the warranty while you got it. Look closely at the car for: Leaking front shocks
Other than that the car is as reliable as any other production car and I drive it every day. good luck! ------------------ |

Christina I have a warranty problem also. When I purchased my Kat which was used (1398 miles) having a 7/70 warranty was very important and for me was a requirement. Prior to purchasing the Kat the seller told me the car had a 7/70 warranty and I took the word of the seller who I found here on the Prowler Owners web site. Well it turns out the car only has a 3/36. The seller said well, they thought it had a 7/70. I have tried to come to an agreement with the seller and offered to go 50/50 to put a 7/70 on the Kat. Now no one responds to emails or answers the phone. So does anyone from Oklahoma know what the laws of that state are for small claims court. I guess I'll also go to the United States postal inspectors since the US mails were used in this transaction and I believe that would constitute mail fraud. Hopefully you and I can both get our warranty problems resolved. Glenn |

Glenn - how did you find out that the car only has the 3/36 original warranty? Did you call the DC Service Contracts number to verify with the VIN#??? If not,,,call them: 1-800-521-9922 If it did have the 7/70 Limited Powertrain Warranty,,,,you only have 60 or 90 days to pay the transfer fee involved. If it doesn't have that extra warranty, you still can purchase a better extended warranty (Maximum Care Extended Warranty). Check with us for the dealer to call for the best price. To be fair about the whole deal, you state the sellers listed the car on this website. That is true, but they really were not POA involved members. They just used the website to sell their cat. I also dealt with them on the cat you bought,,,,and they did tell me it had the 7/70 warranty. Understanding the warranty they advertised,,,I knew I was going to have to add the better extended warranty to be safe for the long run of ownership. Keep us posted and let us know the outcome. |

Allay Cat I went into the local dealer to transfer the warranty within 7 days of buying the car and paid the transfer fee. Several days later I got a letter back from them explaining that the car didn't have a transferable 7/70 and refunding the transfer fee. I have checked with a different dealer's service manager who is a Kat owner and it comes up with just a 3/36 warranty. I know I only have a few weeks to get the longer warranty before the price goes up once again the in service date is 4/24/02. |

Glenn - sorry to hear the sellers were not very truthful with you about the warranty on your car. If you are planning on keeping the cat a long time and are interested in the Max Care Extended Warranty,,,,, contact Bob Cooper at Causeway Chrysler, 1-800-259-5337 to get the best price out there on a Chrysler Extended Warranty. Many plans to choose from,,,,,I'd go with a $0 or $50 deductable. Tell him you are a POA associate. Good luck, don't wait too long. |

Out of curiousity, is the 7/70 powertrain only or bumper to bumper? Thanks to the good advice available on this board I've already had a decent bit of the things mentioned by BlackTie161 checked out. The "in service" date is really key, since "in service" doesn't necessarily mean the date of first sale from a dealer to a customer...dealer titles can count as in service dates too If it's a DC dealer, ask to see if you can see the "VIP" report for the car. I think it's just an acronym for the computer system...it's just a report that lists the owner name and address, in-service date, and the service history of the vehicle (useful if you want to see if the ball-joint recall was done and who did it). For 2001 models, that in service date on the report is really important as there's a cutoff between the 3 yr and 7 yr warranties. The change happened mid year (was it August? please referesh memory). Out of all of the time I've owned my kat, she's been in for repairs nearing 1/2 the time. Essentially, I'm trying to get all possible repairs done before my comprehensive warranty expires (of which the expiration date my own dealer misrepresented...but that's just another bad dealer story of which I'm sure there are plenty on this board). All that said, does anyone have specifics as to the cost and extent of coverage of the additional 7/70 warranty from DC? I was under the impression that it covered powertrain only...things like rims, leaky tops, the "squeaks", and gas gauges weren't covered and that covereage extended only to *unmodified* engines, transmissions, and brake systems. Am I completely off? I've been trying to justify getting an additional warranty for my "new" kat too. The commentary I've seen seems to indicate the extended DC warranty wouldn't cover the most common problems with the car and seemed to not be a good investment. Even now my local dealer here in SB is claming that their mechanics can't hear the squeaks in my kat even though they're obvious. I bet 1 month from now when my warranty expires they'll hear them...or will still be waiting for parts to arrive so the warranty convienently expires like the last 2 week long wait period she was in for repairs. Does anyone have a recommendation for a *top notch* dealer to examine kats still under warranty for reparis anywhere in california? Is CJ in Stockton, or am I completely mistaken? ed |

ed the ape - Go to this link: http://www.chrysler.com/owners/index.html?context=owners-index&type=top then,,,,,near the left side of page UNDER Vehicle Care Center >>> CLICK on >>> Warranty Information. This will bring up the exact content of the 7/70 Powertrain Warranty. If you want the names of the better DC service dealers in your area, I'd contact Larry Lord in Colton, Jim Stallings in Oak View, or Dan Garcia (RBADCAT) in Simi Valley. If you are planning long term ownership, I'd buy the Max Care extended warranty to provide you with more protection. In my other post above, you will find the name/800 number of the dealer giving the best prices on purchasing this plan. Prices vary, due to what you want as far as mileage limits and whether you choose $0, $50, $100 deductible. This message has been edited by ALLEY CAT on 02-28-2004 at 07:41 AM |

I just bought a 2000 Prowler with 8000 miles on it, and was lucky enough to be able to extend the warranty to a 7/50000 mile bumper to bumper deal through the Chrysler sites listed above. The key to being able to extend the original warranty is that the car has not gone over 4 years since the in service date. Luckily, I made it by 3 months. I now have 3 years 2 months, and 42000 miles of no deductible warranty on my Prowler good at any Chrysler dealership. This message has been edited by maverick1 on 02-28-2004 at 05:57 PM |

Be aware - while the MaxCare warranty is very good and has saves me $$$$ several times, it is NOT a real bumper to bumper warranty like the original 3 year 36,000 mile policy that comes with the car from DC. There are a number of exclusions. I am happy I got it but didn't want someone to have impression it covered everything. |

Well, even the original warranty doesn't cover everything Thank you so much for all of the feedback on warranties. It's been incredibly helpful in my decision making process I had been unaware of the surcharges based on years since in service date, only the Prowler surcharge. Interesting to note is that the 7/100k $0 deductible warranty is only available to the original owner of the vehicle. Looks like those of us who had vehicles titled by dealers have at least one of the Mopar/DC warranty options removed A side note...do DC extended service contracts transfer with sale of vehicle? All the docs I have state that the service contracts don't transfer, only the new vehicle warranty. ed |

There is a fee of $ 150 to switch from the original purchaser to the new owner. I am not positive which policy that covers, however. |
