NO, the window sticker had the VIN on it. You cannot determine the exact number since the VIPERS share VIN numbers with Prowlers. In other words if your VIN is 123456 the vehicle with 123457 could be a VIPER. You can look at the owners registry and figure out about where you are in the mix of things. |

From what I understand about the numbering of the pinstriped Kats, they were not necessarily numbered in the order they were built. I read somewhere on this site that the cars were together in the lot and Dr Ru simply numbered them as he striped them. A Black Tie with an earlier V.I.N. may have a higher sequence number than a later car. Example VIN 00504 may be numbered as 096 VIN 00509 may be numbered as 001 VIN 00564 may be numbered as 101 VIN 00573 may be numbered as 074 VIN 00604 may be numbered as 097 VIN 00628 may be numbered as 011 VIN 00635 may be numbered as 161 VIN 00645 may be numbered as 099 The lowest VIN I see according to the registry is 00110 The highest VIN I see according to the registry is 01199 |

I think alrtg is correct for a change. My Black Tie is #146 by Dr Ru, but as I understand, he did not number them in the order they came off the assembly line. Welcome all new Black Tie owners. They are the "coolest." |

Woodward 31. I have a photo of Dr. Ru pinstriping it at Conner Assembly Plant. At least that's what the previous owner told me. |

10th digit is the model yr.9th is called a ck digit, its a secret and is not released the the general public, its to prevent vehicle fraud and only chrysler knows-per the manual--ck.digit at the 9th.position is used by the manufacturer and government agencies to verify the authenticity of the vehicle and documentation.the formula to use the ck.digit is not released to the general public. ------------------ |

http://www.prowleronline.com/ownreg/listprowler.php#vin Scroll all the way to the bottom of the page To expand on what Catfish said about the check digit, it tells what type of body, engine size, etc so chop shops can't make a GTO out of a LeMans, for instance. A convertible will have a diff. number than a 4 door sedan, which would be different from a 2 door hardtop. It changes with each year and manufacturer. Posted previously & copied: The number on the Woodward's and Black Tie's is the sequence that Dr. RU pinstriped them in. A large number of cars would be built and set aside for him to stripe. He could have started with the last car built. The tub numbers are just that, the tub number. The VIN's are mixed with Vipers and even that doesn't ensure they went down the line in order. In 1997, the lowest VIN's were held for the top executives and do not represent the first cars built. The service manual has a page that helps decode each position of the VIN. If you lined up all the VIN's built you would quickly see the progression for each position except the check digit position which is random. That's the same system that I use when doing trailer replacement VIN tags. I've had to refuse to do a number because the VIN sequence was incorrect. |
