I don,t know about you guys, but I will let you in on a little money making idea I come up with. Buying a couple of cuda rag tops, for around $20,000, paint it like Don Johnson's car from his show, put a shaker hood scope on it cost $1000, then sell it for $145,000, like the one at the auction, I think the buying price was $145,000, by the time they got to the final bid, I was rolling on the floor with laughter that someone would pay that high of a price for a cuda with a 318ci just cause Don sat his a$$ in the seat.

Guys,
Barrett-Jackson is unlike any of the other auctions out there.
For some reason bidders pay 10 to 15% more there than anywhere else plus there always seems to be a few cars that go for telephone numbers like the "Elanore" Mustang, but for the most part most of those prices were not close to the money.
Great muscle cars WILL bring very big bucks now, but if you noticed that the average car with no history brought close to avarage prices.

That's been my opinion also. With the premiums in the BJ prices, the sellers come out at about market after costs.
But the buyers don't--they in effect are paying the sellers cost with the premium price, paying their own costs and paying the Arizona sales tax.

Larry Lord bought lunch!

There was a nice 1937 Packard there but Roger and I had our eyes on a 1957 Chrysler Windsor, one owner, big fins, perfect condition and almost no miles. It went for $20,000 which was less than we thought and we've been kicking ourselves ever since for not stepping up.
Lots of fun at the auction. Especially the tour bus ride to and from the front door that Fred planned for everyone.
The tour bus was filled with people from the Tucson and Tubac area. Don't forget about their Tubac Car Show this coming weekend. They're great people and a lot of fun to be around. Their car club gives a tremendous amount of money to the local area and it's schools.

Larry is correct on the 'bird pricing. The 145K would be a Hemi car. The latest pricing on 440's. The six pack cars are getting up there. I've seen numbers matching cars sold for 80K at Carlisle last July. Might find something in the 50's but you should be ready to put some money into it.

Good point....but I think the fact that the car was featured in a hit TV series pumped up the "value" more than being Johnson's personal car.

The funny thing is, I imagine a scenario where the new Cuda owner is watching Nash Bridges, and thinking smugly....."Yeah, I got that car in my garage right now!" Then he sees Don chasing crooks and launches the car airborne off a hill.....The new owner winces, then goes out in the garage and looks under the car to see huge gouges in the undercarraige from those chases...
