It's those small towns like Greenville Ohio that you have to watch out for. Got a ticket there for no front plate. That was a easy $75.00 for them. The cop was on the road in front of me, looked and saw me in his rear view mirror. He made a turnaround and got behind me to see if I had Ohio plates. I had the plate behind the seat and showed it to him, He told me I needed to to put it on the front and gave me the ticket. |

Bat Cliff: I resemble that remark! And yes, my Kat is put away for what seems like 9 months. And our football team sucks. And our Governor used to be a professional wrestler. However, let me remind you that we have the world's largest indoor shopping mall, the world's largest ball of twine, the most golf courses per capita and the world's most beautiful woman (my wife, Jo ann - who occasionally reads my posts ). So there My state also requires 2 plates, and my thought is "don't give an officer reason to stop you" and hopefully you won't get ticketed for only 1 plate. I also keep my front plate behind the passenger seat. Kevin ------------------ |

Hey Kevin! I lived in MN from '81 to '83 and loved it. Two of my favorite towns were Stillwater and Northfield! I guess my impression of the midwest all stems from those two years... winter 9 months of the year! At least now when I look in the sky and see something fly over, I know it is a bird and not a mosquito ------------------ |

Unless its a slow day, ticketing a missing front plate is normally something that comes along with being stopped for another infraction. One of my Kats is in Washington State, where there are front plates. When I first asked my dealer how to mount it, he replied that he'd never seen one come in with a front plate. The only sidebar to that is that I've been reluctant to cross the border into Canada. Since last year, they are very vigilant, and I'm guessing that's somethng they would notice. Any thoughts? |

So, it seems nearly unanimous. No plate on the front....BUT if you decide you want to show off that personalized plate you paid for anyway and want to avoid the ticket, email me for details on buying one I'm selling. I'm having no luck in putting an image up tonight, so do a search for PlateMount just as it's spelled for more under the for sale area. |

Tami - I pulled the front plate off last night and inserted the plugs you recommended. It looks a lot better. The only problem I had was they did not drill when they mounted the plate, they just used the self tapping screws, which pulled the area around the screw outward. Had to use an exacto knife to cut away the material, but the small plug covered that. I did notice this morning that they were out just a little still, may have to pull them and try it again. Also, they used all three mounting holes, so I have to get one more plug anyhow! Either way, it looks better without the plate - thanks for the tip! ------------------ |

There is a hot Rod bracket that is power to raise the plate, or you can make your own. Steve Gillespie made one for his car. mount under the bumper as posted in photo above then retract when parked or when you get stopped PUT IT DOWN |

In regards to these Home Depot bumper plugs, these stores are bigger than some cities. Can you give me some clues as to where they are in the store? What are they really intended for? Thanks! My Kat came with the front plate already mounted and I wouldn't mind pulling it if the holes could be cleanly covered. Thanks for the tip. By the way, I drove a Lexus with no front plate here in IL for 3 years with no trouble and my daily driver now doesn't have one. Like people said, it's just the luck of the draw! |

I actually went to Lowes, as Home Depot is still under construction here. You can find them in the section where they sell the nuts and bolts. Look where they have the specialty fasteners, usually in drawers, and you'll find an assortment. I bought the Hillman GM Push Fasteners, Variable Depth # 0 80358 83765 7. They were a whole 52 cents! ------------------ |

TL is right - I believe those are the ones that I used also. They are in the speciality plug area just like he said. Good luck! Tami |

Thanks a lot guys for the fastener location tip. I wasn't sure where to start looking. I was thinking more towards the furniture section. Probably would have ended up with a set of casters on the front bumper. Hey, sounds like a good title for a song! |

As an owner of nice cars, you understand. CJ - I'm going to lobby the Michigan Senate to vote for front plates on cars up there. That way, the cars in the Michigan tundra country can do their part to act as snow plows and save taxpayer dollars.
