I tell them that I don't know since it is my mom's car and she lets me drive it when I have been good all week. (I am 58 and bald, so I look at least 58, for those of you who have never met me) That usually makes them laugh or just get a look on their face like. "is this guy kidding me? his mom must be 100". That is usually the end of it. I agree it is a RUDE question but a lot of it depends on the person asking and the way they ask. Sometimes it offends me and somtimes it doesn't bother me at all. |

My most often asked question: What is it? (I get this less now that I put the yellow shimmer on the back bumper) 2nd most: Is it fast? I tell them "It's got more in it than I can handle!" 3rd most: I hate to ask, but how much does one cost. I tell them the sticker was $45,400. If I'm in a playful mood I ask them what do they think. I've gotten answers rangeing from $50,000 to $125,000. When I give them the sticker answer they are surprised. I picked up my daughter from school last Thurs. and all the kids on the playground stopped playing and rushed to the fence to see my Kat. I overheard one kid say that his dad said that a Prowler was a $120,000 car. 4th most: How fast have you driven it? I tell them that the rev limiter kicks in at 120 mph and watch their jaws drop. (I think this is correct. Please correct me if I'm wrong) 5th most: What size engine does it have? I tell them a high output six. I told this to a guy on Mon. and he said that he heard that they didn't have as big an engine as you would think. His buddy jumped in his crap! He told him to not let that 6 fool you. He said he thought a six was puny until a Prowler kicked his Corvette not once, but 3 straight times! 6th most: Why would a guy with young kids want a car like that? I tell them I was getting tired of the kids getting all the toys! I also will tell them it's a cure for male menopause. 7th most: What did your wife say when you brought it home? I tell them she was shocked, but thrilled. |

I agree! I get asked that question all the time. It is rude question I wonder why it is asked all the time. Q1: How much did you pay for this? Q2: Is it fast? Q3: Did you drive this all the way up here from FL? LOL ------------------ |

Here are some creative ones for the "How much does it cost?" question. 1) How would I know, it's stolen. 2) Not sure, I won it in a poker match. 3) It was a contest car, won it with 5,000 box tops from Wheaties. 4) It's my mistresses, she let's me drive it when I'm in town.... |

Great responses! I always say it costs more than a nickel. When I tell them I'm not sure how fast it will run, they usually look at the speedometer and immediatey freak thinking it has some top end to it. Maybe if I tow it with an F-16? |

Here is another. "Don't know, it's evidence for a murder trial, I am with the DA's office and am just driving it to the police lab for DNA testing". Imagine the looks when repeating that line. I have to fess up, I actually used that line once to get out of a possibly nasty deal. About 20 years ago, my home got robbed and they took anything with an electric cord attached to it. Stereo, tv's, even the iron. Anyway, the police detectives found 1-2 of the items in a pawn shop in a VERY shady drug infested part of town. Seems like their job is to find it and the victims to pick it up. Great! So here strolls Howdy Doody (aka ME) into this 3rd world country pawn shop. They begrudgingly gave me the equipment and then 3 big (and I mean big) dudes followed me out to my car. Great! One slapped his hand on the roof of my car as I was putting the stuff in the trunk and said, "Did you just buy that stuff inside?" Before I could think (usually the case) my mouth said, "No, this is evidence in a murder trial and I am with the DA's office". You could have heard a pin drop at that moment. I hastely got in my car and left before they had time to compose themselves and ask more questions..... |

I check my list twice before answering that question but, most people don't see me driving it on that one day.... |

It must be something unique to the Prowler... nobody ever ask me what my Mercedes SLK cost. Tons of people ask me what the Prowler cost. Mike |

For the most part, I don't think that the people asking are asking to be rude. It's just that it is such a fabulous car they automatically assume that it is a LOT of money and are quite surprised when they find out is isn't. During the time that I handled the Prowler Roadshow, the most asked question was "how much?". People were shocked to find out that it wasn't nearly what they thought it would be. I actually got many responses that "wow! maybe we can even afford to get one!". Kind of gave them hope that maybe someday they could have such a cool car! |

CJ, It may not be that they are asking it to be rude, it is just that it is one of those things (if one was taught and has manners) you just don't ask under any circumstance. If they really wanted to know if they could afford one, there are thousands of dealerships they could contact for inquiry on the price. When I typically get asked, there is a hoard of people around and it's kinda embarassing. Imagine being at a party a someone asks you out loud, "How much do you weigh?" or "Hey, are those real?" Conversely, they could also ask how much you make (just to see how much they need to make to afford a Prowler). Again, none of their business. No, anyway you slice it, it's just rude but, rather then slap them down, I come up with a creative reply that gets a chuckle out of the crowd and gets me off the hook for a dollar amount. |

I've always hated that question and always try not to answer it really.... but being a young prowler owner the worst comment or question i get which really pisses me off is "Did your parents buy you this car?" or "he is driving Dad's car" I may be young but i worked hard and bought it on my own... sorry about the ranting and raving.... ------------------ |

I think you guys are taking it a little too far. How much for the car is like asking how much money do you make? Not even close. And rude for asking, I think most of the responses you guys gave were much ruder. I guess it too would depend on the person. When people ask questions about my super charged corvette I have nothing to hide. You have something special and to be proud of and you'd be lying to say you only bought it because of the gas milage and not to be seen in. These are rare and limited cars, don't give people a bad impression of their owners. |

Most people who have asked me are truly interested in the car and I tell them what it listed for. They are usually amazed at what it cost and say that it is a lot of car for the price. I feel taking the time to answer all their questions as best I can is not an inconvenience. If Prowler people had not taken the time to answer mine before I decided to buy one, I would probably be driving something else now. We get asked this question so much I must admit at times it is annoying. However I don't want to be rude and give others a bad impression of Prowler owners. I usually just respond the list price is around $46K. |

My two cents. It comes with the car, what is it, is it a kit, your real lucky to own one, and what does it cost? Nothing rude about it, next time tell them you know some one owner RBADKAT)and another 11,000 plus Prowler owners that have one that they got for MSRP of $42,500 plus or minus a few dollars. That should get you off the hook What the big deal. Lets give these inquisitive people some slack by telling them and get to the next question about the car. Dan G. |

There are somethings in life you just don't do. Good manners have always dictated that you NEVER ask how much something cost. But, society as a whole is losing alot of manners and grace in this "if it feels good do it" and "anything goes" society. Alot of kids and adults nowadays feel they can say and do anything, Telling them it was a gift from my board of directors is ruder? I don't think so. It's a comical reply that gets me off the hook from saying my only other option, "It's none of your business" Not telling them the price might make them think ill of Prowler owners or keep them from buying one??? Give me a break. How many times have you been cut off in traffic or flipped off by a driver? Did you immediately decide that all (fill in car type) drivers are jerks? I'd also be willing to bet any amount that anyone that has ever asked me that question has or had no intent on buying a Prowler and just wanted to know what I paid for it. Do you honestly think anyone interested on buying one of these would be discouraged based on a price (or not) that anyone of us told them? Gee, I was interested in the Prowler but, that guy paid 1 million dollars for one.... Also (and there are a fair amount of them) what about the guys that paid $100K plus for these cars. Should they lie and say the car only cost $40K to ensure those inquiring little minds won't be frightened away? Or should they tell them what they really paid and frighten those same little minds away? If they honestly have to know how much it costs, they can call any dealer or visit their local bank and see what NADA says used ones are worth. And yes, asking how much something cost is just plain RUDE. |

Yellow, I couldn't disagree with you more about asking how much a car costs. I agree it is not appropriate on somethings in certain situations. Bad manners to ask how much for a car? That is a pompus, rich, I'm better than you attitude just for someone asking how much did you pay for the car. Hey not everybody is gonna wait to run home and call a dealer to find out, hey some people might not have a local dealer around to ask. And for those of you who paid more, so what, you had to have it and got what you wanted. I say again everybody bought there prowler for one reason. TO BE SEEN IN IT. LOOK AT ME. LOOK WHAT I HAVE. Yes maybe most of the people asking can't afford it, but then again most of us weren't born with a silver spoon in our mouths. But it by dreaming about things and longing for them that we can work hard to achieve them, and shutting someone down because you want to be a snob is even more rude. I do believe that it is not always in best taste to ask how much something costs, but when your out driving your car showing it off, just remember you brought the attention on yourself. |

YF, I couldn't agree more. Curiousity is not the antidote for rudeness nor should it give somebody the right to be able to ask personal questions. The problem is, society as a whole has become very impersonal. |

The only person who I have ever had to answer that question for was my Mom, and she didn't really ask what it cost, she was making sarcastic comments about me trying to bring home a mop that wouldn't fit in my $90,000 car. I couldn't let my Mom think I had paid that much for a car, so I set her straight! Of course I also had to tell her for the 100th time that it is not a Viper! It has been my experience that a guy will ask a girl all kinds of questions about her car (especially if he thinks she can't answer them!) but rarely will they ask her what she paid for it! |
