Last week I posted a problem I had with my gas gauge: http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/006824.html Good advice from many folks out there said it was the sending unit. I called up my local friendly Chrysler Dealer to schedule an appointment for replacement. The service guy said that my problem was typical (as many of you said) but that they could only do the job on an empty gas tank. Rather than let them drain the tank I just filled up, I decided to run the tank down (keeping a close eye on the mileage since that refill). Last night as I was driving home from work, I determined that I had about a half tank of gas left based on my mileage (as I looked at a pegged-to-zero gas gauge). Well, this morning I started up the car and the gas gauge is alive again -- showing a half tank. So tickled by the notion that it could be working again, I stopped by the gas station to fill up. Yep, it shows full again. Has any one else had a sending unit go out, and then a week later come back to life? |

If it happened once it will likely happen again. I ahve not had this problem with my Prowler but I would run the gas out over the weekend and take it in and let them replace it. |

If you run out of gas you could fry your fuel pump so be carefull how low you go, they don't need to remove the gas tank from the car so why so low? To get to the sending unit out they go thru the trunk, there's a cover they remove in the trunk and once that's done the sending units in there face. I'm not saying they don't know what there doing but you should ask Why. Good luck and keep us posted. Al |

Art, I had a new sending unit installed just before we left for Canada last month. When I was in Northern California or Oregon my sender acted up, saying I had 1/4 tank when I knew it was almost full. There is no reason that they would need your tank empty since all of the work is performed from the top. |

10-4 on not needing the tank empty for replacement. Perhaps it's a safety requirement for this service department? |
