Sassy, video worked first time and was very interesting. Well think of the idea since just pulled over by Indiana cops for red lights on wheels. ------------------ |

Mike ...You are opening a can of worms! What next FREEDOM banning sounds like a good idea to you? Just because some idiots can't drive and talk, doesn't mean the rest of us should be forced into obeying some stupid democratic law. And mike how do you think they would enforce this law. The truth is that Chilren in automobiles and distracted parents cause more accidents than those on cell phones. If your motivation is to reduce accidents does it "sound" like a good idea to ban Children from riding in automobiles? And Mike did you know more than 50,000 people are killed every year in autombiles...If we just banned the use of automobiles think of all the lives you would save. Enough said. The Prolwer actually has brakes??? I found that flashing people not lights attracts the biggest attention Sorry, but I was disappointed... WAAAAAAYYYYyyyyy too much hype... First of all I absolutely hate people who tap their breaks like that... Especially when I am a safe distance behind them... It is just too obnoxious and makes it look like the owner of the Prowler does not know how to drive or is scared to... Sell it to a Vette owner I can get the same result (if I really wanted to) with a pair of winged tipped Adolfo's or even in my bare feet at no cost at all!!! I would only tap the breaks like that in a panic stop situation... Doing this every time you tap the breaks may cause the accident for people behind you or they might just ignore your break lights all together, especially in traffic where you will be riding your breaks... I would... I do have a question though... Does the flashing light cause a surge in other electronics in the car such as the tail-lights??? You may find that it will burn out bulbs too much or even interfere with the CD/radio in the car causing a buzzing or hum over the speakers...

Hate to be a wet blanket about this but some localities have ordinances about the use of flashing red lights... Cute mod, though... |

I don't want to sound bad about the mod. To each their own. However almost every state has laws against flashing red lights. Any car that has a red light (wether it be a third lite or other) can't have it flash unless it is a police or fire car/truck. Some cops might be cool about it but I wouldn't count on it. Nice work though. But sorry Sassy it's not for me. Voodoo |

Here is a link to company that has more or less the same item for motorcyle, ran across post off another site where it was used on a vehicle, Think it flashes 3 times. http://www.signaldynamics.com/ Most regulations in refrence to flashing red lights refer to forward facing red lights, a flashing break light more than likely will not cause any vehicle violations. ------------------ |

I think this would qualify in the top 15 of equipment violations the that California Highway Patrol writes. Dan posted this link in the off-topic a couple of weeks ago. http://www.chp.ca.gov/html/equipviolations.html I wouldn't try it in California. ------------------ |

I'm bringing this back up only because I think many of the posts had errors/bashing in their content, and we owe somewhat of an apology to SM. First of all, I've recently noticed, the entire Metro Phx busline uses a flashing red light in their third brake light design. If this was illegal, then the bus manufacturer wouldn't be doing it. A bus is not an emergency vehicle, so that rules out that theory. I'll agree with most, that flashing red lights are illegal, but used as a braking-safety third light, must not be considered illegal. I doubt that the major bus manufacturer would install such a unit on their product if it is illegal. Second, I would say that SM was asking too much of a retail price for the unit. Considering the small electronics involved, I would have thought that $39 to $49 would have been more in line. I'm not saying I should have any say so in what a person charges for their products, that is what the American free market system is all about. Just stating what I'm looking at and what I think it is worth or should sell for before the buying public will become interested. If anyone has printed proof that the flashing red, third brake light is illegal, then produce it and I'll contact the bus manufacturer and the City of Phoenix for their violation of the law. I'm thinking we were wrong in our posts, and owe Sasy an apology. Probably too late! I hate to see anyone leave the website because of errors in judgement and statements by others, me included. JMO |

Alley Cat - Mom says hi and thank you. She sold all the one she had made to PT owners and had several people say that they have diverted accidents. She was trying to get the price down quite a bit, but the special 3M connectors needed to make it a plug N go are expensive. She may have more made in the future and she said if she does she will send Alley Cat one free. Ryan "Kidrock" |

Kidrock - I was hoping that your mom or you might be reading the website and see my post, thanks. I believe we were mostly wrong on what we posted, and took statements to be true without really checking the law about such things. Say hello to your mother and I would hope she would reconsider about coming back. We have had only five or six people leave the website, for one reason or another, but outside of two of those people I wouldn't hesitate to ask the others to come back. In some way, all of us at times have something positive to add to the POA, and with some understanding (and being able to overlook the comments of afew ) we should be able to survive here in harmony. This website is here to benefit all of us! |

They have been doing this on Motorcycles for years, you cannot have flashing red lights on the front but I doubt it would be illegal to do a light on the back. HIGH VISABILITY is the key to safety. If you are lurking Linda hope you are doing OK. Larry |

Mom is calling the company that makes the modules this week and see how much for say 25 would be. I will keep things posted. Mom says she will be back. She still loves everyone here and reads the post all the time. As far as the clear side marker, the company she is dealing with is changing hands by December this year. I think she said they will consider smaller orders. Believe me, mom really wants clear markers bad. Really bad.
