With regard to this thread and the Farewell card idea! http://www.prowleronline.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/004532.html Funny that you should bring this up!! It is great to see that people have thought of this and are very interested in pursuing this. Mike and I have already been having discussions on a way to thank everyone at the plant for their contribution in bringing to us the coolest car on earth. Please keep in mind that when the last Prowler rolls off the line, it is going to be a difficult day for the people who work there. They have been a family for a long time, working together to produce this beautiful car. They have as much pride in it, if not more, than the owners do. It is going to mean changes for them. Since the car will not be replaced by another at the plant, it is highly likely that personnel staff will be reduced and that will be a diffcult time for all of them. Morale is not the greatest right now and it has been made clear that there will be no tours and any big hoopla between now and then. We have to respect that and try to put ourselves in their place. However, Mike and I agreed that we should try to do something. I have already made contact with key people at DC with regard to this issue and we are working on a plan that will be very low-key. I will keep you updated. Mike and I have also come up with a couple of ideas to accomplish this. One of these will be sort of a virtual card and I am going to let him explain to you what we want to do and how he wants us to contribute to this. The other is that we would like to give a little commemorative gift from the Prowler Owners Association in appreciation to all of the people at the plant who have worked on the Prowler. We have several choices in mind and I am currently working on those to see which will be most feasible. We were going to wait a bit to bring this up, but since the subject has been broached, I will go ahead and ask you all now. We believe that all of the Prowler owners would most likely want to join in on these gifts. We also feel that doing this as a group will keep it low-key. So, we are asking for monetary donations to help cover these gifts. Since we don't know yet what the cost will be or what the gift item will be, we feel it is better for everyone to donate whatever they are comfortable with. Since we actually have a good portion of time to work with, here is how I would like to handle this. Mike will be handling the "virtual" card portion of this and I will be handling the gift portion. Therefore.... Please email me at Only1CJay@home.com the amount that you would like to donate towards these gifts. Please DO NOT post this information on this thread...all donations should be kept private. We do not want anyone to feel any pressure that they have to donate any specific amount based on other donations - if at all. Please send a check or money order made out to me with your donation with a notation that it is for the Prowler Plant Workers Gifts. Deadline for verbal donations will be January 15, 2002. This way, I will know how much we have to work with. After you have made a verbal donation to me, please follow up with a check or money order as soon as possible. Shortly after the deadline, we will let everyone know our choice of gift. Thank you in advance.... first, for your desire to honor these people and show your true appreciation and secondly for your donations to help make this happen. If you have any questions, please post here or email me. Thanks........CJ This message has been edited by CJ on 12-21-2001 at 09:38 AM |

I would like to say something here if I may. Are we talking about all and every employee or just the top people. May I make a suggestion. There are companies that make commemorative coins and plaques. I am sure that we can find one of these companies. How about a commemorative coin of plaque. A few years back for the American Cancer Society, we gave these coins to a group of High school students that had a thank you on it. They are not expensive, just thoughtful and something to keep and remember the work. I think a coin or plaque with Thank you would be great for ALL employees involved. Sassy PS The coin can be dated with the start and ending date of the Prowler. We can order more too for all of the members here to have. CJ and Sassy, I think you two have hit a homerun. I also agree that a coin, or something like it, for a token to ALL employees involved would be the best thin we can do. I do not know this for sure, but speculate that the people that will probably be out of a job are not at the top. The people on the lines are who created the cars that the management wanted. I think a coin, or something like that is right on target. ------------------ -2001 Mulholland |

I was thinking that a poster that contained a picture of each color cat could be made. Heck, Mike K could do that just in his garage. We might want to include a couple of others, like Wildcat and John's chrome illusion with a hardtop. I do not know what the cost would be to make a couple hundred posters but I would bet that a lot of people on the board would like to buy one for themselves and have it framed. It could contain the beginning and ending dates of production. I would think we could generate enough money from sales to the membership to pay for all of the posters including the posters for the CAAP workers. Anyone with expertise or knowledge in this field can speak up and tell us if it is feasible. ------------------ |

CJ, do you think we coordinate a "rally" in the CAAP area for that Friday? Maybe a local Chrysler Dealer or Sonic or something? It's a 1,000 mile journey for me, but I would trailer the "BadKat" to that most special event. Would anyone else be interested? ------------------

BadKat: Where did you get: Stainless Steel Engine Cross Bars? CJ: How about a Prowler Calendar with factory workers in a photo with one of every color? Could be a great calendar! Grubby

Ed - good idea! All the ideas are good so far, but let's not make this a two month, full time job for CJ. Maybe some the the other Michigan people can help CJ with the planning. ------------------ |

I mean no disrespect to the plant workers but it's not like they are being fired, they will continue to work elswhere. How about a pat on the back and a heart felt thank you. |

We all know that part of the street rod spirit is the hands-on, grunt work it takes to make the dream a reality. A personal gift from Prowler owners to those who actually built them is a great idea. Those designers, managers and workers who built our Kats will go on to other jobs, but we should give then something special for their efforts. ------------------ |

CJ, I finally mailed you a check for the gift. I hope you are getting some response. If everyone would just send $ 10 there would be a pretty good pot to get the workers something. It doesn't have to be a gold watch, but it would be nice to give them something in appreciation. Sorry, it is so late. I totally forgot it and figured I would be up there this past week. ------------------ This message has been edited by ed monahan on 01-20-2002 at 11:30 PM |

Ed, thanks! Your donation is appreciated, as is all of you who have responded. We aren't giving a gold watch, nothing so elaborate. Just a moderate token of our appreciation. Anyone who has been to the plant for a tour has seen the commitment and loyalty that those craftspeople have for their job......building our Prowlers! They have a genuine passion for the cat. I was speaking to one of them on Friday and she said that they all just loved the new Deep Candy Red cat!! They were just as excited about it as I was!!! They have always been friendly and accommodating to us. In spite of the fact that they are losing something they have put alot of commitment and passion into, and the fact that some of them will lose their jobs when the Prowler comes to an end, their attitude towards their job and us remains the same. I appreciate what they have done and am grateful that they were part of something that has provided us all with such pleasure.....our cats!! |
