Richard, I try to avoid driving in the rain but I refuse to let the weathermen dictate my social life. They are wrong really a high percentage of the time especially around here.
About 20 years ago I did not go to a big softball game because it was pouring down rain. The next day I found out that it did not rain a drop at the field, about 10 miles away. A lot of our weather seems to go up the Miami River valley and the far western and norther suburbs often get hit by big storms and downtown doesn't get a drop.
If it is raining or even drizzling when it is time to leave, I probably won't go unless I can wait awhile to see if it stops or can call to where I am going to see if it is raining there. If I get caught in the rain, I can't control it. I take the car home when I am ready to leave and then wash it. The car gets wet when I wash it, also. I realize the underside gets a lot of junk on it in the rain but I figure I am going to die someday and that could be today, so I don't want to get cheated out of a good time because I was too conservative. That is just the way I feel, and there are a lot more opinions out there that feel just as strongly about their take on it. You have to do what you feel is best for you, and not worry about other peoples' opinions on such mundane issues. If you think that is a tough decision, you ought to own a motorcycle. Sandy usually says, "Do you see that sky? Do you really think we ought to take the bike?" And I always say, "Yeah, we can just drive around it." We usually get soaked within 15 minutes.
By the way, Sasquatch made me post this. Any ornery retorts should be addressed to him at www.BIGFoot@Sasquatch.org.

I don't and wouldn't deliberately take it out in the rain. Been caught 3 times.

Not so worried about the topside, it's the underside that I would prefer to keep as clean as possible. Since I don't have a rack to put it on to clean the underside, I try hard not to get caught in the rain.

Most cats hate rain and avoid it as much as possible, but not getting driven is like being in prison. Cats sometimes get wet with attendant swearing, but get cleaned up and look awesome anyway.

I try and avoid the rain whenever possible, just sometimes it is not possible. Both the black and the black tie have gotten rain driven after being caught, but the orange was done in by the servicing dealer... should get a new orange soon, maybe tomorrow!

We have driven in the rain "purrrr-posely" only twice. Once to see if kats really hate water!(and how they react to them) And i must add, the front & rear claws grip just great!Second time was to our wedding reception, Kyle had to show it off to all his TEXAS A&M buddies that had came into town....just like a man...
