I've been struggling whether to get a viper or vette. (I know Muz is researching on vipers now too.) As I read the engine specs on the 1991 and earlier vettes, surprised they only had 200--250 hp, and weigh about 3300lbs. Heck, prowlers have more hp than that!

Well, one corvette club wrote this quote on their website about their drag race event: "We all ran and put the car's thru their paces on the track. What a rush, to blast down the track at over 100 mph in 13.6 sec. In the quarter mile"

Next time someone says the prowler is just for looks....remember it is faster than most corvettes!!

>>Mike K holds the 1/4 mile title at 12.15 sec (I believe)

Joe, stock Prowler times aren't as good as 13.6, but should definately beat an 80's Vette.

With all of the emissions stuff and fuel prices going on in the 80's, all "muscle cars" were weak. Mustang GT and Z28's barely topped 200hp also. In high school the muscle car I wanted was the Buick GNX. That would kick any Vettes butt of the time!!

As far as Viper or Vette. VIPER all the way. There are so many Vettes on the road they are hardly unique. Vipers are still few and far between and way cooler looking than any Vette. 500hp or 350hp? you be the judge.

Did you know that in '78, the fastest, or I should say the quickest stock production vehicle from the US market was NOT a Corvette? It was a Dodge "Lil-Red-Express" pick-up truck (fact). Boy, I'd hate to be the owner that brag's about having a '78 Vette!

Try pitting a stock prowler against a stock vette and see who wins.

Or pit a modified one against a stock Z06. (0-60 3.9 sec)

Or wait for the newer 2002 Z06 that has 20 more h.p.

I love the Prowler but, these are different leagues.

In doing my vette research, I also found that the 1965 Vette, with L78 engine put out 425hp. The newer C5 vettes and the Z06 mentioned have mid to upper 300 hp range, but the point I was trying to make was I found a range of vettes, 1970's & 1980's vettes had less hp than the prowler.
....just trying to educate that the prowler is more powerful in terms of hp than a good number of vettes.

No Muz, I got my prowler from Gator Chrysler in Melbourne, FL. Been looking at local dealerships for vipers. Still in the research stage, not sure I really want to lay down $75K on just one vehicle.

2001 Z06 - 385 hp.

2002 Z06 - 405 hp.

Both have different gearing then stock vettes and a closer ratio 6-speed. Both years also weigh less then a stock vette too.
