Andy - Al said he sent over an old garden hose to the doc, for the photo shoot - hope it was clean?? All $hit aside, how did it go? My doc is suggesting it, but the thought makes me nervous. Guess Rockford won't like me anymore? |

Had a colonoscopy a month ago. I am 52 and my doc says ya need it. I was ok. I talked to a friend Bob last week who was 54 and never had one. He found some blood in his stool and the following week had surgery and he had a golfball sized tumor which the doc removed. Now, however, he can't control his bowels or urination or erection, he said that he doesn't even know that he has to go and goes on himself. He has to cathe himself 6 times a day. I almost cried while he was telling me. So line up and get your colonoscsopy today! ------------------ |

Not sure I'd want to bend over for that kind of work either... it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta stick their finger's in there. ------------------ |

It is a gastroenterologist, anyway your family doc will know who to send you to. BTW, do exactly what your doc tells you to do and do not listen to other people on how to prepare for this test. Also go to the doc that your family M.D. suggests. Your family M.D. has years of experience and knows who does the best job! Remember, the more cleaned out you are, the better view and the easier it is for the doc to search your colon for the bad stuff. Some people are weenies and don't do what they are supposed to for preparation and whine so much that the doc says "ok you don't have to do all of that", but your not getting the best procedure if you are a whiner. Heck, I'm 33 and did not even know about this stuff. Forget getting to fifty years old to do this thing. I rather know now that something might be wrong and do something about it early. I'm checking out my doctor next week... Better safe than sorry!! Scary stuff ......

I had it done last year and it was one of the most painful experiences in my life, and believe me I have a high threshold for pain. I could only equate it with the pain a woman endures during natural childbirth. The entire procedure is about 3 minutes......but that will be the longest three you will ever experience. Like Dan said, better be safe than sorry. |

I was hesitant about asking Super Dan the question about this procedure, but now glad I did. Informing all of us may help save somebody, someday. I'm sure this thread will continue. Didn't want to hear about the 3 minutes of pain, or relating it to natural childbirth. Short story - worked with this gal who constantly complained about natural childbirth pains. Finally, I asked her if she complained during conception? End of her stories.......... ------------------

When I had my colonoscopy a month ago, there was absolutely no pain at all. No discomfort and no pain. The two days prior to the procedure, you have to drink a diuretic and go thru that ordeal, but at the out patient surgery center, no pain. They put you out and when you wake up you feel fine and your done and you go to the closest restaurant and eat like you never ate before. ------------------ |
