The buying public has an EXTREMELY short memory... once the Prowler is over, they will be off to find something else and these will be forgotten by all but those who love them. Public wants the NEW thing, not last years make and model, always, until it has aged and become the stuff of memories. ------------------ |

I figure I have about another 30 good yrs left before I become too feeble minded to continue to drive. I don't believe the Kat is going to appreciate THAT much in value and I did not buy it to make a windfall. I got it to have fun, fun, fun and spend some of my money before the wife and kids get it. |

Not enough people own or see Prowlers for the masses to have memories about the car 30 years from now. I wonder if it will end up being valued like that amphibious car that can go on land and in water-definitely a niche market vehicle. Can't remember the name or model. ------------------ |

I have a love of old cars. I restored a 1950 Cadillac, 1957 and 1965 Chevy Pick-up, and a 1964 1/2 Mustang. I made money on selling everyone of them. I am not saying the Prowler will allow you to retire, however with a limited number out there you are ahead. They were expensive when they first came out and are now being sold at $1500 below MSRP, but will you get an original in 1 year or 10 years. I believe you should buy it, drive it and enjoy it. I have had the privilege driving one, riding in one, and selling 5 of them. I personally would love a Viper, however it would look pretty good next to a Prowler. Right Mike? History has a way of repeating itself. |

The Prowler will probably be remembered in the same category as the Delorean. A technologically advanced car that was not accepted by the masses, and therefore will not become a true collectible. Its future value will not reflect its true status! |

MidLP - I agree with you completely. I will try to wear it out over the next 20 - 25 years, and THEN give it to my grandson. NiteCrawler - I worked for a Ford dealer in the early 70s, and we had traded for one of those Amphibian cars. We started it at $1995 and would drop the price every 60 days. Three years later, this old guy came in with $500 cash and he owned it! The sales force got tanked one afternoon, and took it to nearby lake for a cruise (swim). After 10 minutes in lake, it started to take in water - out it came. Never seen that car again, and I always wondered if it was in the bottom of some lake. Memories |

I agree with JanetteHampton, When things get discontinued they usually go up in value. Maby you can still get a Prowler but not a Plymouth Prowler. You know how people are about wanting things they can't have $$$$$$$$$. ------------------ |

One cannot compare classics of 30 plus years ago to todays cars and values... only time will tell for sure... but there are two things to keep in mind when collecting... desire for said object when new, and desire (usually because of I had one,or wanted one) when old. If the buying public were so enthralled by the Prowler, MSRP would never have happened... there is a select group of people who buys these, most of the rest might go oooo and ahhhh but BUYING one is another matter, and if these go up in Value, doubtful, but if they do, more and more people would not be able to buy them. If so many rich people wanted them, again, MSRP would never have been reached. MSRP happens when a market reaches saturation. ------------------ |

Todd, most people think that they are in the $80,000 range since that was what the first ones were going for. Most people also think that they are extremely hard to get, that there is a huge waiting list. There has been NO advertising and that had a big effect on price, also. |

Todd, I agree with Ed. I have never met anyone that knows what these things sell for. They all still assume they are 80K or up and very hard to get. I was refering to the way the first people that bought them had to have one first so highest bidder got the car 130K. Maby when they are discontinued they'll be some that want what they can no longer get. ------------------ |

Al and Ed - Your probably right on.. I heard one local guy paid $98,000 for a '97 when they came out - that news put me in a holding pattern for years - then came the 2000 for MSRP, and you would have thought I had stolen it by the look on my face. There is a used 2000 for sale locally - $52,500 FIRM - Hope he gets it! May be a long wait...... Paul - You are right about the Amphicar. That is how the one my dealership had was titled. Remember one being in a James Bond 007 film? It would definetly float, but not float indefinetly! ------------------ |

Paul-as Larry said, you were right about the Amphicar name. I found one listed for sale in the back of a 63 Road and Track mag~~~~~ at the sacrifice price of $2600.- $200 more then the restored 1936 CORD in the next column and $100 more then the 1925 Bugatti . Oh well, but then it was a newer car!!!! Hindsite-20-20 ------------------ |

Time will tell... my personal experience is those that know what these cars are, also know the prices in their areas. Prowlers are still 60-70 K in many areas of the US, but prices are dropping FAST too. ------------------ |

Yes and no on that.... those that really truly want them are usually able to find out how to get them. Also, assuming the 80K price is keeping people away NOW, imagine an 80K price on a USED Prowler... simply not going to happen then, supply AND demand sets prices, always. For prices on a Prowler to go substantially up, they need to be cool with the class that buys a few Ferraris for the garage, which, they are not usually, even though WE get the looks and I have caught many a Ferrari "dude" checking out the Kat's as I pass them, or they me. ------------------ |

Alley Cat, we ate at Sebastian's Friday night as a matter of fact. It is a Greek joint. Sandy loves the place. It has been there 24 years. I used to live about a block and a half away. |
