Yesterday I removed the stock muffler and replaced it with straight pipes. I was not happy with the sound at all and immediately put the stock muffler back on. I am thinking about putting cherry bombs on to replace the stock muffler and was wondering if anyone on the forum has already done this or has any experience with cherry bombs? A friend told me that they will be loud (they are pretty much straight pipes), but will filter out the high frequencies and will produce a low, booming sound. Thanks in advance. |

WG - can't say I've heard a cherry bomb on a Prowler, but have been told it will be similar to straight pipe sound. Try a glass pac muffler, isn't too loud during normal driving, but gets really roaring during mid to high RPM levels. ------------------ |

I have tried all configurations of the exhaust using the stock components. Straight pipes without resonators, Stock muffler without resonators and straight pipes with resonators. For the last year I have been running straight pipes with the resonators in the tips. Although I liked the noise, I did have some problems with a harmonic hum that made it hard to tallk to my passenger with the top down at certain RPMs or speeds. Last week I installed 2 15" glasspacks with 2.25" cores and I am now much happier with the sound. I would say that the sound now equals the Borla system for a total cost of under $100.00 and can be easily put back to stock. Everything is just in place of the stock muffler and required no cutting or welding of the stock exhaust system. |

I didn't go with the Cherry Bombs but did install the old Smithy glass pacs. If you want to "hear" them, go to my website at Lord of the Looks.com and under "My Kat" check out the exhaust system. Turn down the bas on your speakers and you can compare the stock without baffels and the Smithy's. ------------------ |

You can find my exhaust work at my site. I got glass packs with an H pipe in it. Look for "MY Exhaust Project". LAter... ------------------ |
